What a great mid-round pick. His role will only increase in the future with the likely (in my opinion) departure of Mike Daniels after this year.

I’m a little torn on Daniels. He’s one of my fav Packers. There is a chance we could keep one of him or Bulaga next year.

      Tramon
      Daniels
      Bulaga
      Crosby
      Martinez
      Fackrell
      Geronimo
      Spriggs
      Mercedes

Martinez is probably top priority. Might even see that one happen soon. Geronimo is a guy I’d like to keep around. After that, maybe we can keep one of Bulaga or Daniels.

My hope is someone plays well at tackle and makes it easy to let Bulaga go, then we resign Daniels.

I thought maybe this was about off-season arm-lengthening surgery.

The Army would be up in arms about that surgery.

I think I have lost the ability to judge mid- to low- tier NFL contracts. My first thought was $20 million?" but at $5.5 per year, OK I guess?
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Seems like a fair deal for a guy they think will be solid long term.

The only way I can evaluate them is by thinking about the salary cap. Roughly $190 million for about 55-60 guys or so, (roster + IR) and a little for dead money on players cut, practice squad, etc. $3M+ or so quickly becomes a thumbnail "average", but with 25-30 or so players being on first contracts, minimum contracts, etc. much below the $3M+ "average", I can easily convince myself that $5.5M isn't a lot for a guy like Lowry who has a significant role and has stayed healthy.

Im like patler, I do a percentage of the cap calc in my head and then judge. At just under 3% a guy on their second contract who is above average and solid is a good deal for the team in year one and is a great deal in year 4 if he makes it.

After this extension, Dean Lowry reminds me of what my father used to say about Dutchmen: deep pockets, short arms.

JH, you would get more commentary if you got the thread title right. It should be:

My first reaction was it's a lot of money for a meh player.
After some thought it's not bad, especially if he's a starter.
He's been healthy and something of a contributor, and many think he outplayed Wilkerson last year.

So you're not . . . Up in arms about it, then?

Who is more likely to go up and block a pass, a 6'6" guy with short arms? or a 6'0 guy with average to long arms? - just asking.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

How many passes get batted down in a game do you suppose? On average?
