    It’s not all Martinez.

Flower himself said gap discipline remains poor. Martinez is not dominating enough to put a stop to a running game by himself.

The line has to play as a unit and mind the gap.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

He also said it's not all discipline. You need to win the battle for the gap. Daniels and Clark were winning those battles last year.

martinez (a 4th rd pick who leads the league in tackles) is doing what he can. he has no one next to him. pettine doesn't ask him to blitz or shoot gaps...just take on O-lineman or drop into zone coverage. i wonder why he doesn't get sacks or ints?

Martinez's ceiling is slightly below average - and he hasn't even been playing to that limbo-low standard.

I'm hoping Gute moves on from him next year.

Martinez pretty much sucks. Slow reacting, soft. The heart of the line gets moved at will though, so I get why he looks bad out there. But any ILB worth a damn at least occasionally closes a gap and makes a great play without requiring the line to serve it up for him on a silver platter. He makes a ton of tackles in the 4-10 yard rage. Classic JAG

I just read an article on the sad woes of the Packer 'no defense'.

Until things dramatically change with giving up BIG PLAYS and an I improvement to the now failing pass rush. The Green Bay Packers are sagging as a real contender in the NFC.

Seems like Adams came back too soon and ARod was trying to force him the ball to get into a groove. When downs and series are limited - it’s a risky strategy.

I agree - run the ball. But sure seemed like we ran on a majority of 1st downs last game. That tendency will get picked up...

Defense is 2nd to last (31) in yards/play since week 4. Savage is back but hasn’t been the same. Where’s the ball hawking, aggressive D. It’s luke we’re in constant prevent mode between the 20s.
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

I think Harvey Korman was right: less bondage, more discipline.

If you ain't scared of McCaffrey, you ain't paying attention. He's averaging over 110 yds rushing, 45 yds receiving and 1.5 TDs/game. He leads the league in yards from scrimmage. Hopefully he doesn't make our LBs look how Jones made Dallas' look.

                      Keep it simple:

I suspect the Kevin King groin injury is slowing him down. He's getting beat more than he was earlier in the season.

Why Oren Burks appears to be sucking so bad does not appear to be due to injury, however. Lots of posters like to hammer Ted for his last few drafts, and maybe rightfully so, but Gutekunst has his 2nd, third, AND fourth round picks from the 2018 draft not contributing at all (Josh Jackson, Burks, and J'Mon, where did the ball go? Moore).

I know it's "only" year two for them, but at the positions Jackson and Burks play, they ought to be on the field a little more at this point, no?

Jackson is a game day inactive and Burks is kinda the same way, even when on the field. But he's one of the few "LBs" they have on STs who seems worth anything.

Well, maybe that's a sign he's got the physical skills but just needs to work on the game.

But I thought those Vandy boys were all pretty edumucated guys.
