Now we don't have to trade for him. So is he worth it now?

Well, if you want to add to the current teams circus bring him in. Personally I'd pass on a guy who acts like he is still a premier receiver but in reality is not.

He goes on waivers. Packers are 28th on the waiver list. OBJ's base salary is 14.5M unless Browns restructured the deal before releasing him.

Unfortunately for the Pack, OBJ will be a Saint, which - according Bobble - should be impossible b/c the Saints are in a “cap hell.”

There’s no such shit as a “cap hell” anymore. Trust me on this. I’ve passed the Wisconsin CPA exams.

I read this morning that Junior's salary was converted to a signing bonus for cap relief, which would reduce him to veteran-minimum salary. I'm not sure how recent that is, but I believe it means all that converted salary is stuck on the Brownies' cap and not on whomever picks him up.

Browns and OBJ are reportedly restructuring the deal in order to minimize the Brown's cap impact, but as PFT pointed out they have to be careful if he wants to pick his next destination. He could get claimed by the Jets (or worse, the Giants!) a la Randy Moss to Tennessee.

The two sides are believed to have agreed on a revised contract that presumably limits the team’s financial obligation to Beckham and/or spreads some of the cap burden to future years by converting some of the salary into a signing bonus. The negotiations undoubtedly tried to find a sweet spot that would reduce Beckham’s pay from Cleveland in order to allow him to get his wish to play elsewhere. At some point, however, the remaining salary becomes sufficiently low to entice a team to claim Beckham on waivers. Perhaps a team for which Beckham doesn’t want to play.

LFG. I would do this for sure. The name of the game is the super bowl, nothing else matters this year as it's getting blown up after the season anyway and a rebuild. This is the kind of move that can be the difference between winning and losing the NFCC.

Additionally, any team that claims Odell Beckham Jr. would inherit $7.25 million of salary for the remainder of the season, per sources. The cost is considered high for a player that now will be considered a rental with this being the last year of his contract.

How? I understand converting base salary to bonus, but the opposite shouldn't be possible.

Only thing that makes sense is converting future year base salary to current season. But that doesn't help the Browns, it just makes him harder to fit on good teams this year at that contract.

Two sites showed OBJ's 2021 salary as $15 million. The ~$7.5 figure looks to be only his remaining game checks. I have no idea what maneuvering could be done, maybe converting his 2022 (maybe 2023) to a voidable year(s) that immediately gets voided.

Maybe I'm just thinking too hard. Wouldn't the Giants have had to eat his signing bonus when they traded him to Cleveland?

Singing bonus yes, but roster bonuses and others are not recognized until earned.

Either way, not a guy I would sign.

IIRC the Giants did eat the bonus. They paid him $20.5M for 12 games before dealing him. Tells you what they thought of him.
He's been hurt so much I wouldn't touch him for $7.5M, plus the packers don't have that much cap space anyway.
