He goes on waivers. Packers are 28th on the waiver list. OBJ's base salary is 14.5M unless Browns restructured the deal before releasing him.Originally posted by Cheesehead Craig View PostNow we don't have to trade for him. So is he worth it now?I can't run no more

I read this morning that Junior's salary was converted to a signing bonus for cap relief, which would reduce him to veteran-minimum salary. I'm not sure how recent that is, but I believe it means all that converted salary is stuck on the Brownies' cap and not on whomever picks him up.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostHe goes on waivers. Still don't want him.Swede: My expertise in this area is extensive. The essential difference between a "battleship" and an "aircraft carrier" is that an aircraft carrier requires five direct hits to sink, but it takes only four direct hits to sink a battleship.

Browns and OBJ are reportedly restructuring the deal in order to minimize the Brown's cap impact, but as PFT pointed out they have to be careful if he wants to pick his next destination. He could get claimed by the Jets (or worse, the Giants!) a la Randy Moss to Tennessee.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostHe goes on waivers. Packers are 28th on the waiver list. The two sides are believed to have agreed on a revised contract that presumably limits the team’s financial obligation to Beckham and/or spreads some of the cap burden to future years by converting some of the salary into a signing bonus. The negotiations undoubtedly tried to find a sweet spot that would reduce Beckham’s pay from Cleveland in order to allow him to get his wish to play elsewhere. At some point, however, the remaining salary becomes sufficiently low to entice a team to claim Beckham on waivers. Perhaps a team for which Beckham doesn’t want to play.--
Imagine for a moment a world without hypothetical situations...

Additionally, any team that claims Odell Beckham Jr. would inherit $7.25 million of salary for the remainder of the season, per sources. The cost is considered high for a player that now will be considered a rental with this being the last year of his contract.I can't run no more

How? I understand converting base salary to bonus, but the opposite shouldn't be possible.Originally posted by Guiness View PostBrowns and OBJ are reportedly restructuring the deal in order to minimize the Brown's cap impact, but as PFT pointed out they have to be careful if he wants to pick his next destination. Only thing that makes sense is converting future year base salary to current season. But that doesn't help the Browns, it just makes him harder to fit on good teams this year at that contract.

Two sites showed OBJ's 2021 salary as $15 million. The ~$7.5 figure looks to be only his remaining game checks. I have no idea what maneuvering could be done, maybe converting his 2022 (maybe 2023) to a voidable year(s) that immediately gets voided.
Maybe I'm just thinking too hard. Wouldn't the Giants have had to eat his signing bonus when they traded him to Cleveland?I believe in God, family, Baylor University, and the Green Bay Packers.

IIRC the Giants did eat the bonus. They paid him $20.5M for 12 games before dealing him. Tells you what they thought of him.Originally posted by NewsBruin View PostTwo sites showed OBJ's 2021 salary as $15 million. The ~$7.5 figure looks to be only his remaining game checks. He's been hurt so much I wouldn't touch him for $7.5M, plus the packers don't have that much cap space anyway.
