  • I think one area the Packers have fallen down on is the Offensive Line. They managed the transition to LaFleur well, better than I expected. But the next generation line hasn't done the team any favors in the pass game and the run game suffered in 2025 too.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

    • It seems that the Packers leadership places way less priority on O Line than they do on skill positions and maybe defense. I very much share that prioritization. It's worked pretty well for the Packers for the past few decades.

Not last year nor even the year before. Need to regain 2024 run game AND improve pass blocking.

I only see the tex experience when you quote him. Another team that doesn't prioritize the OL at all is the Cincinnati Bengals as you ignored when pointing out the 'lite weapons Burrow has. QBs in the upright position makes even Sam Darnold look like an All Pro. QBs consistently getting up off the turf make Burrow look like Sam Darnold.....and miss games.

          • I figured it would stir up a hornets nest of the usual suspects and sacred cow worshippers when I said that. For over three decades, we'e had mostly O Line mediocrity, made to appear better than they were by QB mobility and excellence in general, that and generally good RBs and above average Receivers, and the result was generally winning teams. Those skill positions are where you win games. Mediocrity in the O Line is tolerable. As a great man once said, don't waste a bunch of money on yokozumas.

Its not my job to do Bretsky's job for him. But seriously, he has the team he has and has gone 500. Love is a step above that with the team he has which also includes less than stellar pass pro.

Early I might have taken Burrow over Love; though currently he's banged up enough that I am not certain. I would have been after his Super Bowl appearance.

One could EASILY argue Gutebag is overrated.

He F'cked the Packers OL up royally. And he hides behind his doors and often uses cliches like we have the develop the talent when he's had MANY obvious F'ck ups both in the draft and his recent FA decisions and OL moves.

SOMEBODY PINCH ME; did we REALLY already pay Aaron Frickin Banks $47,000,000 for pretty much nothing. ??

Letting Josh Myers go when he signed cheap, moving Jenkins to C, and signing Aaron Banks, all combined........WOW.....I'd call this incompetency based on last year

Banks was a likely problem given his injury history and modest play. But Jenkins to center over Myers seemed like a slam dunk. But it sure seems like Burton will be the heir apparent soon enough, that is, if he doesn't make the starting lineup as a Guard.

                    • Is it irony that we're talking about OL incompetency and Joe Burrow vs. Jordan Love?

Gute's had some misses, but I don't think he's done anything close to a fireable offense. Honestly, from a roster building standpoint, he's done ok. I think MLF getting their "top 5 on the field" has meant playing people out of position, and the flaw there is your top 5 players may actually suck if they aren't in their "natural" position. (e.g., Jordan Morgan).

The Banks contract was and is ugly. I didn't understand it then or now. That's just a miss. We all thought Jenkins would be an upgrade over Myers and I think his attitude and injuries disproved that. Losing Zach Tom was significant, and Rasheed Walker taking a step back hurt too. These are/were good players who got hurt or played out of position.

                      That's all off topic.

I don't know that I would take Burrow over Love. Burrow's injury history is a big concern, but if you swap him for Matthew Stafford I bet McVay would be really cooking. If you swap him with Love, maybe there's a bump but I have far less confidence he lasts 14+ games a season.

They can get out of it now without catastrophe. The top line numbers all look huge but it was pretty self contained after one year. His play picked up the more he played last year. If he gets healthy he could trend up again. If ....

Point taken about them uncharacteristically (and stupidly) signing Banks. That pretty much was giving priority money-wise to the O Line, and a good example of why it's dumb to do so.

There was a lot of hate for Meyers (irrational IMO(. The haters shoulda learned that Meyers wasn't so bad when what replaced him bombed so bad.

The point of all of this, though, is the team can be and will be very good because of the so-called skill positions regardless of mediocrity in the O Line.

Except they turned Banks contract into a signing bonus plus 2 void years this offseason. No real big issue, but it would be a $24,000,000 cap hit to cut him this year. After this year it is about break even to let him go. After 2027 they would save space by cutting him.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

                            • Two fundamental precepts in conflict with each other: 1. You can almost always overcome the cap. 2. It's stupid to invest big in O Line.
