No one is suggesting they should stop running the ball. But when you are 4th in yards per passing attempt, and 25th in yards per rushing attempt, should you be 27th in pass attempts and 7th in rushing attempts?

First response from Aaron Schatz is that he had a very poor completion percentage under pressure.

Also a low aDOT, which I just looked up and is average depth of target. So he's getting fewer completions on shorter passes.

Based on different sources, Love was not good against pressure, great against the blitz, and great against man defense. PFF gave him a 92 grade against cover 0 and cover 1. So...when teams played zone while getting pressure without blitzing, Love struggled? NFL teams play zone about 70% of the time.

That' stat shit can be very misleading. If a QB is under pressure, you WANT him to throw the ball away most of the time which will result in a lower completion percentage. Rodgers was the GOAT in large part because he did t.that and avoided interceptions.

Love seems to have learned his lessons well in that regard.

I read Schatz's response wrong and now it makes more sense. Low completion percentage against the blitz but a HIGH aDOT (average depth of target) meaning he is targeting a deep shot against the blitz, which corresponds to the low completion percentage. So not so much a hole in his game as much as a chosen approach.

I don't disagree, but a couple of the big plays Willis had against the Ravens were right at the start of the game when MiLF ran play action and the Ravens were 100% flat footed playing the run. He did the same thing as OC in Tennessee in the playoffs with Tannehill and looked the part of a genius. I just want a better OL so the OCD issue works a little better.

Is it possible that we are so effective passing BECAUSE we run enough to keep the defense honest? A better balance is fine and with Love being mostly a finished product now I think we will see the training wheels come off more this year.

Its almost like he learned from Rodgers or something. However sometimes if a quick hit can get you the first down I definitely like the get rid of it quick approach. But punishing a defense with the occasional big play can discourage 3rd and moderate distance blitzes.

Yep. I think given the numbers it would be wise to slide down a bit for more first downs and a few less bombs. But don't abandon the shot play.

bobblehead, you may not have the balls to read my posts, but it's downright ironic that you post the same thing I just said, specifically that Love emulates the best quality of Rodgers - avoiding interceptions.
