I don't really see Wooden as competing with those guys. They're different types of players.
    From what I understand, Wooden is still only 276 lbs. And if Brooks is backing up Wyatt, do you really need a very mediocre and still underweight Wooden, or do you keep three NT's, one of which you drafted for his potential as a pass rusher (Brinson)? I don't agree with you on this one.

    • MLF looking pissed and grayer. I like it.

      Matt Schniedemann had a pretty good rundown of what transpired between MLF and Rasheed Walker yesterday.

      GREEN BAY, Wis. — Reporters aren’t allowed to directly quote what they hear on the practice field, but let’s just say head coach Matt LaFleur wasn’t happy. In fact, he was enraged, perhaps more so than I’ve ever seen in my prior six seasons covering him.

      After a passing play during a move-the-ball drill late in Tuesday’s practice, the first with full pads and under scorching Green Bay heat, left tackle Rasheed Walker and defensive end Kingsley Enagbare remained engaged after the play. Enagbare eventually let go, while Walker did not and pulled Enagbare to the ground. Both players hit the deck and LaFleur snapped. Defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington swore at Walker. First, LaFleur booted Walker from the drill. Then, he kicked the entire starting offense out. Finally, he approached the offense’s sideline while repeatedly calling Walker’s name and told him to take a lap with an expletive mixed in.

      Walker did not appear pleased. Right tackle Zach Tom, either. LaFleur called for assistant offensive line coach Eddie Gordon to handle Walker. Green Bay’s starting left tackle was reluctant to take his lap until others joined in. Tom and fellow offensive linemen Elgton Jenkins, Sean Rhyan and Jordan Morgan jogged the lap alongside Walker (starting left guard Aaron Banks was sidelined with a back injury, hence his exclusion). So too did running back Josh Jacobs and tight end Tucker Kraft.

      This all came after LaFleur benched cornerback Nate Hobbs for a low hit on running back MarShawn Lloyd during Monday’s practice, that decision coming after LaFleur had already told Hobbs to scale back his physicality in practice. Lloyd came up hobbling after the play and didn’t return to practice, but LaFleur said Tuesday morning that Lloyd appeared to suffer a non-contact injury before Hobbs’ hit. Nonetheless, LaFleur is trying to corral his team when facing one another, as evidenced by his fiery post-practice speech (more on that later).

      Here’s what five members of the Lap Crew said in the locker room after practice.

      Tom: “I haven’t seen something like that since high school. We didn’t want him to go around alone, so we’re just like, ‘Let’s join him.’ Obviously, we have his back.”

      Jenkins: “It’s spontaneous. I feel like he was just playing football, but we’re going to ride with him no matter what. It was just basically like, he do it, I do it.”

      Rhyan: “We’re not going to let him run alone because at the end of the day, we were out there with him when the incident happened. It was a unit thing, so we just took a jog with him. Nothing wrong with it.”

      Jacobs: “Sometimes, when you in the heat of a moment, you might not necessarily agree with something that’s going on and you kinda get singled out. I think that just knowing that somebody got your back, gon’ do it with you, kinda helps out a little bit.”

      Kraft: “One unit, man. If we get punished, we get punished together. That’s just the way I see it. A little Coach Carter-esque, I guess.”

      Walker didn’t elaborate much on what led to his banishment from the drill, saying, “We were both just straining. That’s really what it was.”

      “I was like, ‘Alright,’ and then he said, ‘Take a lap,’ and I was like, ‘What?’” Walker added. “Because I personally don’t like taking laps, so I was trying to gather my breath and then I saw my teammates running and so I was like, I’ll run with my teammates. I took another one just to get my thoughts together and walked another lap and it was all good.”

      Practice ended not long after Walker’s incident, and LaFleur laid into his team. From where reporters stood, we couldn’t decipher everything the head coach said, but a couple of expletives were audible.

      “Just some of the chippiness and some of the post-play things that might be going on, offensively and defensively, the message is practice smarter,” quarterback Jordan Love said of LaFleur’s post-practice talk. “Always have that team-first mentality and obviously everybody’s out there competing and football’s a very violent sport, a lot of things go on, but just have that mindset where we’re taking care of each other in practice.”

        If Wooden is only 276, that's a problem. An article from May indicated he was much heavier than that.

        Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Colby Wooden knew he needed to get bigger and stronger to survive up front in the NFL, so the 2023 fourth-round pick went to work this offseason and eventually added 15 pounds.

        Listed at 273 at the combine and 278 pounds as a rookie, Wooden is now up over 290 -- and as heavy as 293. He hopes the extra weight and strength will produce a second-year leap.

        "Being light down there, they’ll definitely circle you out and highlight you," Wooden told Bill Huber of SI.com. "I definitely needed to get stronger. It’s a grown-man world down there. I just needed to get stronger.”

          Stenavich complementary of Jordan Morgan and how he's performed in training camp up to this point. Morgan will continue to be worked in at LT "as much as possible" now that the OL is getting healthy.

He failed against a couple of superstars, but he did good in man coverage against a lot of average decent receivers. Valentine seems to be like that - good but I'm not sure about his speed. I'd take that over Keisan - fast but gets beat by moves.
            Valentine ran a 4.44 with a 1.52 10 yard split. He is plenty fast. It takes like 10 seconds to find that before posting.

            • I was agreeing with you, Valentine is good. A 4.44 forty, though, is ok but not really that great for a Corner. The guy I was thinking of as a comparison was Ladarius Gunter. He was even slower - 4.69 forty, but he could really cover good - within the limitation of his speed.

              • Play of the day today was Romeo Doubs. I was at practice. Happened right in front of me. Fantastic catch.

                Play of the Day: Romeo Doubs

                On third-and-3, Jordan Love and Romeo Doubs connected for a highlight-reel play. Doubs was matched against slot Javon Bullard downfield. The ball appeared destined to hit Bullard between the “Ls” on the back of his jersey. Instead, Doubs jumped, reached over Bullard and caught the ball about 20 yards downfield. Doubs turned upfield and ran the final 15 yards for the touchdown.

                “We repped it earlier during the day,” Doubs said. “It was a great touch ball by J-Love and I just did to the best of my ability make the play.”

                They might have repped the play, but he didn’t rep the catch. How did he do it?

                “I have no idea,” he said. “I don’t even remember how it happened. Well, I might have – I do remember my hands but, ultimately, it was a great ball by him, great catch by me.”

                With arms outstretched and a loud scream, Doubs celebrated in the back of the end zone. Several members of the offense ran downfield to celebrate with him.

                “It’s great” to make a play like that to add a spark during the dog days of camp. “We’re supposed to celebrate big plays, first downs, touchdowns – anything. If you’re not celebrating, something’s wrong.”

                  @Paul_Bretl

                  I asked LaFleur about Stackhouse and he mentioned wanting to get him some reps with the ones. First team portion he got a few snaps against the first team offense.

                  @mikespofford

                  WR Jayden Reed (toe) back in 11-on-11 after dropping out yesterday. As expected, Morgan at LT for Walker (groin), Valentine at outside CB for Hobbs (knee) on first units.

                  Love’s passing starts with off-schedule flip middle to Musgrave, then bullet downfield to Doubs on stop route.

                  @mattschneidman

                  So much for Jayden Reed not practicing. He might’ve just made the catch of camp during 11-on-11. Went up for a jump ball between two DBs. Ball popped up, Reed fell on his back and he secured the ball lying on the ground.

                  @MarquesEversoll

                  Love to Matthew Golden on a crossing route past the sticks. Good coverage, but it was a dart on the money, another nice play for the now 22-year-old wearing #22.

                  #Packers “highlights” in Team —

                  Love hits Musgrave for about 10 on a short crosser, off play-action.

                  Doubs sits down in the zone over the middle. Love finds him for 20 in front of Bullard.

                  Willis touch pass over the LB, complete to Fitzpatrick. Sliding catch on sideline.
                  Weston Hodkiewicz
                  @WesHod

                  Emanuel Wilson was slow to get up and tended to from trainers after going for sideline pass in End zone on Love pass.

                  He’s up now and walking off on his own
                  Aaron Nagler
                  @AaronNagler

                  Anthony Belton got a handful of reps with the ones at LT.
                  Ryan Wood
                  @ByRyanWood

                  Really nice hands from Luke Musgrave, snatching a fastball from Malik Willis at the goal line for TD on third & goal from the 6.

                  • When I saw Lucas Van Ness beat Jordan Morgan twice, I pondered if that meant Van Ness is getting better, if he just looks good in practice, or if that really said something about Jordan Morgan ?

                    Sounds like Bo Melton has looked fairly good at CB and he's considered one of our top ST guys. I think he's going to make it
                    TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

                    • The reports have been pretty good on LVN throughout camp no matter who he's been lined up against. And he's been lining up with the starters. I think that was Morgan's first day of lining up at LT, so he may have been shaking off some rust. Generally I think the play of the DL has been pretty good. I was at practice on Thursday. In addition to LVN beating Morgan in 1 on 1's, I saw Gary manhandle Tom on a couple, and the same with Wyatt on Monk.

                        Is Monk the starting center next year? He might be

                        • 2 years ago the Packers were the youngest in decades to make the playoffs. Youngest ever to win a playoff game. As a result, they have a lot of guys who are still young, but experienced. It's a great situation to be in. The only question is whether they have enough impact players. That's why they've been a bit more active in free agency, and why they drafted Golden. Doubs seems to be in a good place after a really rough 2024. Monk is probably a lock to make the team because he might be the future, but Jenkins and Rhyan are still possibilities.

                          Stackhouse might be the Packers best UDFA in quite a while.

                            Yes, his speed limited him to being a poor NFL player. After starting 15 games in 2016 for a team that ranked 31st in passing yards allowed and 29th in TDs allowed, he had exactly 2 more defensive snaps in his career and never made a single INT in the NFL.
