TRADE: #Packers are close to finalizing a trade that would send Rashan Gary to the #Cowboys, per source.

    Edit:

    Specifically: It’s a 2027 4th rounder for Gary.
What the fuck? We trade away a player and don't get value for a full year. Way to go Guter.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

It was common knowledge Gary was likely gone. I'm surprised he got that much.

The fact that they got anything for a guy they were going to have to release anyway is pretty amazing.

        Thanks, Jerruh.

As for the Sean Ryan signing, well, meh. I guess it's okay? If the guy can learn to pass protect better?

The moves so far - the Franklin trade, the Sean Ryan signing, the new ST coach - are all quite uninspiring to me.

I’d think Jerruh had to plop down the 4th rounder just to secure Gary, so probably didn’t want to risk losing him.

Have a pal who is a Cowboys fan and he texted me his team is now the Dallas Packers.

I would rather get a 5th this year and have a body that might contribute; to getting a 4th next year and have a body that might contribute next year but won't do anything for the team this year.

I am getting the feeling that the Packers are going to do a soft reload this year (dead weight and money gone) and go nuts in 2027. If McKinney gets an extension (3rd contract alert) and they do something with Banks deal, they suddenly only look cap constrained this year.

The upshot of their moves, save Banks which was interesting but doesn't exactly fit in this scenario, the Packers are clearing space for 2027 which no longer seems hamstrung by the cap even with the Love and Parsons deals ballooning.

As for the 2027 pick, if they get the max four compensatory this year (even three), that might be all you want. It might be enough to see Gute trading up. This isn't a great draft class and it might not be the year for 11 pick Ted special.

                @nickkorte

At $22.5M APY, OTC's 2027 compensatory free agents program is currently placing Malik Willis in the 4th round.

However, it is not giving him a snap count boost, and if he is the consistent starter, that pick could easily turn into a 3rd to the Packers.

                  • Elgton Jenkins has been released according to Adam Schefter*.

Also as Dan notes in the Gary thread, my theory about loading comp picks this year and so Gary's return of a 2027 pick from the Cowboys is wrong. Both the Gary pick and the comp picks are all going to be for the 2027 draft.

Clearly Guter has something up his sleeve. Is he going to sign a corner? Woolen from Seattle? Then maybe a lower-level nose tackle, someone who has been cut elsewhere?

He doesn't have many picks this year. Next year, depending on Doubs,Walker, and Walker, he'll have many picks. So pick up one higher-priced free agent, maybe a corner, and then drafta NT, corners, a tight end, maybe an offensive lineman, maybe a linebacker in case Franklin sucks?
