Wolf was pretty bad with early picks. Sherman hit his #1's but failed miserably after that. I believe this stat is accurate.

Hey Nick, other than JWalk and Barnett, can you refresh my memory on his other # 1's.. I remember Ahmad Carrol, but no one else jumps to mind.
My Two favorite teams are the Packers, and whoever plays the Vikings!

        Barnett
        Carroll
        Walker

Those are Shermans #1's. I think those are damn good picks for where he was picking.

I like the Walker & Barnett picks.. Carrol was a huge reach, and his imaturity / cockiness is still a problem IMO.

            Edwards
            Franks
            Reynolds

4 out of 7 were pretty good players. Wolf didn't get any stars from his #1's

No not stars, but in order they were picks #32, 27, 30, 19, 25, 14 and 10 (A big "oops" on that last one!)

                Least Successful Drafts Overall
Teams Picks avg. games played per season
                Lions 11.25
                Packers 11.44
                Bears 11.75
                Browns 11.83
                Panthers 11.86

If Thompson had made a similar study, he'd realize that he can't depend so much on rookies, and wake up and use the Washington apporch in free agentcy.

                Do you have a link?
Dont know if its online (you can try to find it at Washingtonpost.com), but I got my source from Monday's paper.

                Here's what they got say:

The Washington Post gathered data from the first three rounds of the NFL draft over the past 10 years and measured each pick's average games played per season. This number is not necessary a measure of NFL sucess--a player might have played 15 games per season, albeit unproductively for a losing team. But average games played per season can comparatively measure draft sucess and failure, and after analyzing the data, many interesting numbers emerge.

some interesting data, along with Green Bay being the 2nd "least sucessful drafts overall:

                Most sucessful drafts overall
Colts 13.47 (pick's avg. games played per season)
                Bills 13.08
                Jets 12.97
                Texans 12.85
                Eagles 12.85

4.24 Avg games played per season by the 13 qbs drafted in the third round, the lowest of any position in any of the first three rounds. The qbs drafted in the 1st rd (24 of them) have averaged 10.22 and the ones drafted in the 2nd (7) average 8.91.

14.06 avg gamnes played by safeties drafted in the second round (20 of them) the highest avearge of any position with more than three players drafted.

                Most successful draft position:
Pick Avg games played per season
                19 14.75
                35 14.75
                13 14.51
                17 14.49
                36 14.49

Im getting sick of typing so check out washingtonpost.com to see if you can find the whole article. Great newspaper. Better than the conservative Times.

The bottom line is, you can't depend wholly on the draft. You gotta, as Brett Favre said, "make a statment in free agency" also.

WTF? If Sherman failed miserably, then Thompson failed motherfucking merserably.

11 picks and 1 quality starter; for a guy who loves giving birth to rookies, that is motherfucking miserable.
