won't this thread have all the same players as the "don't" draft thread? Just by different posters?

I prefer the Packers generally go with the best player available.

          1) Levi Brown OT Penn State
          2) Kenny Irons RB Auburn
          3) Michael Bush RB/FB Louisville (falls due to injury)
          4) Tim Crowder DE Texas
          5) Matt Spaeth TE Minnesota (falls due to injury)
          6) Tony Franklin CB Virginia
          7a) Enoka Lucas C/OG Oregon
          7b) Steve Breaston WR Michigan
          7c) Dallas Sartz OLB USC

In this scenario the 6th round pick, 7b, and 7c have considerable obstacles to making the team.

I like that draft quite a bit, CC. Not too much depth this year so you won't see the big names like last year or next year in the 4th round and lower.

This years draft is considered "deeper" by every "expert" and magazine I've seen so far.

Guys I'd like to see in green and gold...I wrote some comments on a few of the guys.

Ted Ginn - Some think he's overrated, I think he's underrated. Speed, and fills 3 positions instantly.
Marshawn Lynch - I think could be the best running back in the draft.
              Greg Olsen
              Patrick Willis
              Antonio Pittman
              Michael Bush
              Darrelle Revis
              Aaron Ross
Joe Stanley - EXTREMELY great athlete.
              Michael Griffin
              Jon Beason
Ben Patrick - Small School...if he went to a big school, he'd be a 1st or 2nd round pick.
Chris Henry - BIG bruising back with some good speed.
Brian Leonard - I like him...who can't like him. Team guy, athletic. FB or HB, could fill any role, even as a TE.
              Cory Anderson
              Dallas Sartz
              Jonathan Wade
Tanard Jackson - Might be the best S/CB combo player in draft
Brandon Meriweather - Some say is the 2nd best safety in draft.
              John Wendling - Good athlete
Eric Weddle - Can play S & CB
Jeremy Clark - VERY high on this guy if we look for DT, could be taken in 5th or later.
Keith Jackson - I really like him, and not just because of who his dad is. 5-7 round pick.
Amobi Okoye (He won't be there, but I can dream)
Victor Abiamiri - Could be a Mark Anderson type in the NFL right away. Doesn't have to start, but could replace KGB, and be a 3rd down specialist. Not small either, 6'5" 270.
              Doug Free
              Scott Chandler
Matt Spaeth - Productive TE, but not seen as much cause of going to Minnesota.
              Ryan Moore
              Dallas Baker
Jacoby Jones - interesting small school guy.
Dwayne Jarrett - Red Zone production from day 1.
Darius Walker - considered one of the best Zone runners in the draft, and considered as the best receiving back in the draft.
"I would love to have a guy that always gets the key hit, a pitcher that always makes his best pitch and a manager that can always make the right decision. The problem is getting him to put down his beer and come out of the stands and do those things." - Danny Murraugh

I haven't seen that said by anyone ND, and I view a lot of draft content. Other than Receiver, Safety and DE there isn't much to this draft. I don't know that a single guy from this years top 5 would have broke into last years top 5.

I also just don't feel like the depth is there. Guys like Blackmon are gonig to be going on the first day this year. We got a steal in the 5th.

I can't find any sportswriters making an real comparison between the two, but This site full of draft lovers agrees more with my sentiment.

Joe Thomas would have been top 5 last year ahead of Ferguson. Calvin Johnson probably breaks the top 5 last year as well.

This is a deep RB class. Solid RB's could be taken well into round 4. Deep WR class. This is actually a deep OL "2nd tear" group this year. You have the top 1/2 round guys...but everyone else is kind of a 3/4/5 round type. DB is deep. DL is pretty deep as well. Solid players at DE or DT can be seen into round 5. There aren't the "name" guys this year. But the talent is deep.

It is very deep in WR, Safety and DE. Definitely can get a contributor just about anywhere on the first day.

But, last year was a rarity. Thomas and D'Brick gotta be a push because D'Brick is a much more freakish athlete.

Santonio Holmes probably wouldn't crack the first round this year, so the WR class is clearly much better.

But, I don't think Olsen would be a first day pick last year. There were too many TEs with great production compared to a guy with little production that had a Mike Mamula-esque combine.

RB was not especially deep last year. This year its deeper. Wait until next year. That class of RB will be all time.

Certainly last year was more top heavy than this draft, as the prospects across the board in direct comparison simply cannot compete. I think last years draft will be the equivalent to the NBA 2003 draft, one of the best ever.

You've got solid low-round contributors in Mark Anderson (one of the best speed rushers in the league, pro-bowler), Owen Daniels (future pro-bowler, led all rookie TE in TD), a second round linebacker who is one of the best linebackers in the NFL already, 3 quarterbacks who would each go #1 this year, the most hyped prospect to come out in many, many years in Reggie Bush, and the ultimate weapon in Vince Young.

Here is a decent analysis of the two drafts that I found:

Difference is on a scale of < [slim margain] to <<< [large margain]

                    QB [2006] >> QB [2007]

2006 was a great draft for QB's with Leinart, Young and Cutler and some not bad ones afterwards [Clemens, Croyle etc]. There are only two elite QB prospects this year and they have a weaker class after that. Two pts for 2006.

                    RB [2006] >> RB [2007]

Marshawn and AD are every bit as good as Reggie Bush in terms of a pro RB prospect, but after that the talent really drops off. 2006 was solid all through the 1st day. #8 ranked RB 2006 - Jerious Norwood....#8 this year...Darius Walker. Enough said.

                    WR [2006] <<< WR [2007]

Chad Jackson might be the 8th WR taken if he had come out this year. If I had a 5 < rating I would use it here.

                    OL [2006] >> OL [2007]

2006 had much better OT prospects [Brick, McNeill, Winston, Justice, Trueblood] than this year [Thomas, Brown, Sears, Staley]. Guards are very even, as are C's with the emergence of Kalil.

                    DL [2006] < DL [2007]

This is a tough one. The DE's are pretty close. I think 2007 has more depth at the position and more Day 1 prospects. 2006 has the best prospect [Williams] and had more 3-4 OLB prospects than we do this year [Lawson, Wimbley]. What tips the scales to 2007 for me is the DT position. Branch/Okoye and Ngata/Bunkley is pretty even, but Pitcock and Harrell are better than McCargo and Tank = Watson imo. Slight edge to this years draft.

                    LB [2006] >> LB [2007]

With no elite prospects at LB this year, it isn't very close. There are some nice values this year with Poz, Willis, and Timmons. But you just can't compare them to Hawk, Greenway, Sims and Howard.

                    DB [2006] < DB [2007]

This is also fairly evenly matched. CB's are close with no elite level CB's available [tho Leon Hall comes close]. I think the top end prospects this year are a little more physical than last year, and I believe that will make them more successful in the long run. Safeties are pretty much dead even in my eyes and I think they will go at almost the same rate as last year.

                    Add this up....

                    [2006] 8 - 5 [2007]

I know some ppl will disagree with me, and I do think that 2007 will be better on Day 2 than last year, but I think the depth at QB, RB, OL and LB make 2006 a clearly stronger draft.

PS - I went into this in favor of 2007....

EDIT - Forgot TE's. 2006 was stronger but it would have been bunched in with WR's and would not have changed the score at all. This is the best WR draft in recent memory and last year's was pretty sad.

I like DWayne Bowe a lot.

I trust Harv on Sidney Rice.

I would not mind seeing Joe Stellmacher or Roderick Rodgers brought into camp.

I think Stocco would be an excellent quarterback to choose in the 6th/7th round if he's there.

I agree with BH that Kenny Irons is vastly overrated and i'd take him over Pacman Lynch.

Joe isn't pursueing the NFL. He's student teaching next fall, and graudate assisting at UW. I told Joe I would pay his $50 to have his name put into the rookie class, but he laughed and said he's not interested.

Now that is an interesting decision. Is he going for a phD or something? Otherwise, I would think the appeal of playing a game for a career would be much better and more rewarding for a family, even if you are a career backup and floater, for 8-10 years than doing the daily grind for 50.

Either way, I salute him. He is the definition of a great badger!
