I'm pretty sure I suggested something like this last week too. I think it is a great idea to look at. A 5-2 defense with Hawk and Barnett as the LBs certainly could do some damage on early downs, and be a real problem for teams with receiving threats at TE.
This would completely nullify Poppinga's position, and why have Barnett in there when Poppinga is by far the better pass rusher?

Before our next preseason game, I would like to see Fergy get cut. The last thing I want to see during the next preseason game is Fergy getting injured and getting a huge injury settlement before the team can cut him.

During the game, I simply want to see our starting Offense put together a long scoring drive against the other teams starting Defense.
Then, I want to see our starting Defense pressuring the opposing QB.
Other than that, no injuries, and improvement from the rookies.

I'd like to see our starting defensive backfield on the field together to start developing some chemistry and communication which was obviously lacking last year.

I'd like to see Bubba catch the ball so he doesn't get booed out of the place.

I'd like to see Zac Alcorn get more reps.

I'd like to see some kickoff returns out past the 20 yard line.

I'd like to see Aaron Rouse in the 1st half.

I'd like to see some decent running plays against Seattle's #1 defense.

At first I thought you were joking, but I guess you weren't. Part of the appeal would be "nullifying" Poppinga. I have no idea how you've come to the conclusion that he's a "far better" anything than Barnett, much less pass rusher, but he's really not. He looked improved in the PIT game from last year, but improvement on complete ineptitude isn't much to get excited about. I don't really see much of a need for a LB to be rushing the QB in a 5-2 running situation anyway, since in theory he wouldn't have th ball, but that's just me.

The other issue would be that Poppinga still hasn't demonstrated he can cover anything with more speed than a ham sandwich. When the opposing QB saw Poppinga out there in a 5-2, he would start drooling before he called the audible to a short cross pattern.

Don't matter much anyway, as I doubt Sanders is interested in trying new things, even if your old things suck. We still have Shittenhimer as evidence of that.

I can think of a few people that would agree with that statement.

              1. I'm starting to think Clowney doesn't make the team. It would be nice if we were able to give him a year on the practice squad. Will Blackmon made a statement in this game. He has a legitimate chance of being the return man if he keeps it up in the next three games.
This guy will make the team on speed alone. book it!

I'd like to see Tramon Williams and Jarrett Bush play a bit more.

Brandon Jackson more involved in the passing game.

Get the TEs not named Bubba more involved.

                  A 5-2 on run downs?

Run downs, schmun downs, there ain't a decent offense in the league that wouldn't pass our asses silly with that alignment.

Teams run a 5-2 in special situations, but you can't make a living running a 5-2.

It's neat to think about bc we finally have 3 DT's that could do that kind of thing, but it wouldn't work worth shit.

Fer instance, you wanna put our safeties more at risk by reducing their underneath help?

                  Don't think so.

                    Better pass coverage

Better running game, which includes the O-line opening up more holes

And better play by the tight ends.....somebody other than JJ please catch the ball

Boddiford---I want to see if he is a serious enough of a threat as a return man to keep around

Clowney--I want to see if he his explosive speed is close enough to developing to keep around

Rouse-- I want to see if we have anybody capable at Safety

Harrell- Work the guy into shape since he's clearly not there yet
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

I was actually impressed with one of the receptions that Bodiford had. The ball was thrown a little behind him, but he was able to catch it and show good speed turning upfield. He needs to keep showing he can contribute to the passing game to make the team. Just being a returner won't cut it.

I want to see the #1 offense and defense play short amounts of time like last week so we can get a final determination on the last part of the roster before cut downs.

In the #1 offense's short stint, I'd like to see them run the ball effectively. I'd like to see us score points with the #1's

I'd like to see the #1 D play tough and stop the Seahawks #1 offense

I'd like to see more of the same from Rodgers

I'd like to see Jennings look 100% healthy, practice all week and then make a big play

Other than that, I'd like to see some of our 2's or 3's step up and make the roster decisions easy.

Note the bold in the original quote. Some running downs. Not all.

Second, with the starting CBs we have, running a 5-2 against a 2 WR 1 TE, or even 2 TE, formation shouldn't be an issue. Once again, I am referring back to the SOME running downs. I don't think anyone here has inferred GB can "make a living" in a 5-2 alignment. Just that it could be a useful tool against certain offensive sets.

In the second preseason game I'd like to see Brett and the first string look sharper and score after a long drive featuring a good mix of run and pass.

I'd like to see Brandon Jackson and the O-line build off their second half performance in the running game.

I'd like to see Rouse, Blackmon, Bush, and some of the other kids push hard for starting roles at safety and #3 corner. Keep the young talent coming and pushing and let the best players get on the field.

I'd like to see special teams start to look at least somewhat coherent for the first time since the Holmgren era.

I'd like to see the first string offense get a first down.

I'd like to see Morency sitting on the bench, even though he reportedly is returning to camp this week. the Packers are going to need him in regular season, no need to rush him back.

I'd like to see Jackson break a nice run against the first team defense. Show some good reads of the defense.
