This guy will make the team on speed alone. book it!

        1. Johnnie Gray punch Drew Smith in the face.

        2. Johnnie Gray kick Drew Smith in the 'nads.

        3. A replay of when the Three Amigos went to Holmgren's house on Hallowe'en.

        4. More candid shots of the McCarthy family at work, rest and play.

        5. Jason Spitz' freshman picture.

That never gets old. Put a big, red nose on the man and you have yourself a mighty fine clown.

Agreed. It should be used as something to keep the offense honest.

I doubt a team could "pass us to death" in a 5-2. We seem to have the potential to get a lot of pressure and penetration with our basic front four, and we have highly capable CBs on the edge that excel at disrupting receivers at the line of scrimmage. With 5 strong players on the DL, the offense can't think they are going to take 5 step drops and have all day back there to pass.

Think about it...you are merely substituting Poppinga (a marginal coverage guy anyway) for KGB. What we lose in coverage ability from Pop I think is more than made up for in pocket pressure from KGB and the gang. So I challenge those who claim we would be "passed to death" in such a scheme to explain themselves.

                  1) Legitimate backup QB competition ~ Meaning let the other two play more then a few downs. Rodgers has gotten the bulk of snaps in the pre-season for three years running. It would be nice to level the playing field and give Martin and Thompson the same advantages Rodgers has had. I know one of them will surprise us.

                  2) Quit bashing Herron. A missed block, oh know, the guy sucks, cut him. How about you look at what he did that was good (you know, hoe you do that with the other rookies and Rodgers).

                  3) First Team O on the field the entire first half. It's apparent that they are not in sync.

                  4) Harrell gets cut.

                  5) Ferguson gets the boot.

                    Why?

Rodgers looked solid the other night...why not continue to give the guy live reps in game action so he is ready when he has to step in as a starter? I do not think there is any evidence from practice or otherwise that either Martin or Thompson has the tools at this point to seriously challenge Rodgers...and a couple throws in preseason against the 3rd string isn't going to change that.

                      Leaper,

Review #4 on the list above, and then decide whether it's even worth responding to such drivel.

I say the clue phone is ringing, but I don't think he'd know how to operate it.

                          Hey, is that me?

Yeah, we would be tossed on and run off the field by trying to implement a 5-2 in "run downs".

                          What is a run down?

                          1st & 10?
                          2 & long?
                          3rd and short?

These teams have coaches. We play a 5 man front on "run downs" we are gonna have teams throw on us a lot. They wouldn't have to mess our stellar CB's, there would be a lot of room underneath for the backs and TE's. But, out safeties might have a little trouble with the 3 receiver sets teams would run on us.

This type of front would require a lot of adjustment in our current D. We play a 4-3 with the LB's sheltered, the safeties back and centered, and CB's on the island.

Now we go 5-2. Who is the nose tackle? Do Harrell and Williams play a gap or a 3 technique? Where do the LB's play. Two of 'em sheltered with no Mike or with Hawk to the strong side, or what. How about the safeties? centered but up, or over the corners?

Our young DLine is great and growing. Now you are gonna tell 3 of 'em ( the Ends too, really) to learn new jobs? That will mess with the continuity. Skin backed up and said to do it situation-ally. A couple 3 times a game/ sure. But not as a base D. You are disrupting too much for a negligible gain.

It ain't gonna happen for a lotta reasons, some I've detailed above.

                            3. Anyone but Atari, Marquad, or Underwood at safety.

                            4. A five man front of Kampman, Cole, Harrell, Pickett, and Jenkins with Hawk and Barnett backing them on some running downs. We have a strength, we should use it.

                            5. Jesus put his hands on Herron and turn him into a real running back.

I'll take the first 4. As for #5, even Jesus could'nt accomplish THAT miracle. Had that been a real game, Favre would have gotten hammered big time cause Herron missed a blitz pick-up. No excuse on earth for that. However, due to Mr Thompson's dis-belief in experience when it comes to the RB position, Herron ain't going no where cause he's all we got.......
Noah (hands on hin . . Jeeesusss) Herron is likely the best we have.

Now. . . think about that possibility and be very very concerned.

I'm pretty sure I suggested something like this last week too. I think it is a great idea to look at. A 5-2 defense with Hawk and Barnett as the LBs certainly could do some damage on early downs, and be a real problem for teams with receiving threats at TE.
Lemme vote a huge "HAIL NO" here.

                                A 5-2 on run downs?

Run downs, schmun downs, there ain't a decent offense in the league that wouldn't pass our asses silly with that alignment.

Teams run a 5-2 in special situations, but you can't make a living running a 5-2.

It's neat to think about bc we finally have 3 DT's that could do that kind of thing, but it wouldn't work worth shit.

Fer instance, you wanna put our safeties more at risk by reducing their underneath help?

                                Don't think so.
Yes and don't forget our pass coverage no shows last season, especially in the first half of the schedule.

The invisable curtain. Invisable to Packer fans. Pathetic.
