sorry kids, but I had to give it straight.
Feel the same way for the most part, Ras. Vowed after the World Series cancellation that I would never attend another MLB game.

Definitely was tempted at times, especially with the past Brewers' season. Even with free/discounted ticketes. But I've stuck to my guns. The day they ran Fay Vincent out and let Bud be their hired stooge, look what happened to the game.

Guys like Bart Giamatti and Fay Vincent were caretakers of the game. Guys like Selig and the other owners care more about the money coming in. </rant>
Sorry...disagree. Selig inherited the mess. Union wouldn't agree to a salary cap and the owners wouldn't agree to revenue sharing. You don't think that Selig...who was a small market owner of a team that couldn't compete...wouldn't have loved to see the disparity between the haves and have nots shrunk? I think that is the reason Selig took the job in the first place...to see if he could equal the playing filed.

Did he F up a lot? You bet...the steroid scandal was on his watch. But he was against the strongest union in all of sports and owners like Steinbrenner and Turner that couldn't care less about the disparity as long as they were winning championships.

I too took a leave from baseball but there have been small gains made and some - not all, but some - of the disparity is indeed shrinking. If your smart and spend your money wisely your team too can be a Colorado or a Arizona. The Brewers were close. And how great (with apologies to all Cub fans) was it to see the spend-happy Cubs bite the dust in 3 against the Rockies and Steinbrenner lose to the the Indians.

Despite baseballs ills and past problems, I believe the game is back and I don't feel Selig was part of the problem but part of the solution.

I will admit I am biased...I was around when the Braves packed up and moved to Atlanta despite great attendance. I remember when there wasn't baseball in Milwaukee and Bud Selig brought it back. I remember the Brewers rise to elite status in '82 and then slowly fall to the side as it became harder and harder for them to compete with the unlimited pockets of big market teams.

So yes, I am biased. IMHO...Selig didn't create the problem. He inherited the problem.

Sorry all...this is very off-topic but I could not not respond.

          • I went to a football game and a baseball discussion broke out!

Nice post Atl. I used to love the game to the tune of listening to about 120 games year....I've probably watched maybe 10 games since 1994. They can kiss my arse. Fix your sport dumbasses.

            • Special teams won the first game against the Eagles

The offense won the next 3 games.

Today, the defense wins the game.

The Packers have a pretty well balanced team, and it seems each week someone steps up to win the game. Well done. Can't wait until all three phases of the game play well during the same game.

Game one: special teams and defense
                Game two: offense and defense
                Game three: offense
                Game four: offense and defense
                Game six: defense

I just hope we win a game with the running game soon. The rest of the team is playoff caliber. Favre had his first horrible game today. Game one, he wasn't great, but was pressured a lot and made plays when he had to. Games two through four, he was exceptional. Game five, he was exceptional in the first half, but had a bad interception and ineffective second half (although the playcalling hurt him). Still, he played well enough that they should have had the win. They won today despite him. That's the way it goes sometimes though.

                • The broadcast of the game on TV didn't show anything, but I hope to hell MM was giving the refs an earful after some of the holding done to Kampman.

                  • I don't mind if calls are made/not made as long as there is some consistency to it. I admit I did see an offsides penalty that would have gone against GB at one point not get called, but that does not equate having 2 touchdowns nullified. If there was contact allowed on for one team, then it should have been allowed to the same degree for the other. The way it was is just stupid.

                    • Missed the game because I was travelling, and saw Favre's and Wynn's #'s on the ticker before I saw the score - I thought for sure we'd lost!

They sure pulled this one out. Good teams find ways to win games, and this team is certainly doing that!
