  • Former GB RBs > or = Current GB RBs

Here's a fun game for y'all; name former GB RBs that were better or just as good as current GB RBs.

Jim Taylor, Edgar Bennett, Dorsey Levens & Ahman Green are the obvious choices but how about....GERRY ELLIS. I'd say he's just as good as our current backfield.

That leaves another Q: is that a good sign for the upcoming games?

Don't forget Terdell Middleton, Eddie Lee Ivery, Brent Fullwood, Derrick Holmes....Right, it could go on for every. Maybe a better challenge would be to list the running backs who played for GB for more than one full season who were worse than what GB has now. So guys like Raymont Harris wouldn't count. I can think of one: Michael Haddix.

Kenneth Davis from the mid-80's who went on to play for the Bills after the Packers, probably never kept an OC up at night, unless he was buying him drinks.

With this line I'm not sure how well any of those guys would do now. I don't think our RBs are so bad, I don't think our linemen are untalented, but they're the problem. They're not executing the scheme. Some people just can't learn the fox trot no matter how hard they try, and I guess some linemen can't execute backside cuts properly no matter how much they're told. We have 4 such guys.

How about we name RBs that were worse than this year's RBs? Actually, there are three teams in the NFL who average less yards/carry than our 3.3. I can't believe there's a team with fewer rushing attempts. I'm assuming that team has had their bye already.

Gado is averaging 2.6 yards/carry this year. He makes our RBs look like Adrian Peterson.

I tend to agree with this. I think there are special running backs who can do well despite not the best O-line, but typically not. So, it sounds like we're back to the position of fish or cut bait on this blocking scheme. Do they bag it or really dig in and try learn it, execute it? I wonder what the braintrust really thinks about this? It cerainly wouldn't hurt to have a more experienced, sure RB who can find daylight and not go down easily, but for most backs, if there is no lane there is nowhere to run. Only a special back can make something out of nothing, and we do not really have such a back. I'm not sure where they go from here. I'm really glad to be 5-1, but I do hope they can figure something out to make the running game at least respectable by the time it is really needed.

Barty Smith (?) Some of you older guys help me out - was that his name?

During the Bart Starr years this guy set an NFL record (I am guessing) for being cut by one team. He played with the Packers for about 5 years and was cut probably a dozen times it seams. Packers would get an injury or upset with a player and they kept bringing him back.
