Wine question

I just went to the wine store. I asked for something good and red; said I wasn't picky. Said I used to drink Merlot, I've recently enjoyed Cab and Pinot Noir. I said I wasn't picky, just something for 12-15 and something good.

She gave me a bottle of Red Zin. I must say, this is an excellent bottle of wine for the money. I think the key is say "something red" and leave it at that. Then they can just give you whatever's best rather than having to try to think of a good Merlot or good Pinot Noir, they can just give you what is hottest on their shelf.

It's worked out very well. This is a very good bottle of wine. Oooh, my wife's home soon. We can play scrabble.

Penfolds 2006 Koonunga Hill Shiraz/Cabernet. Absolute steal at $8.00. Drinks like a $50 bottle. Drink now or could be held for 10-15 years. Its that good.
There is no more to be had here in Anchorage for the time being..a group of about six of us went around and bought every case we could find.

Just bought two bottles of Corison Cabernet during the wootoff (it was a wootoff detour to wine.woot). I read a bunch of good things about it and the normal selling price for Corison Cab is $70 per bottle. I got two for the price of one. I almost always pay about $12 per bottle so this is obviously a significant jump at $31. I'm hoping there is a significant jump in quality, but there is only one way to find out. I've had some damn good $12 wine and although I really enjoy it, I can just sense that wine has more to offer than what I've already gotten. I'm hoping this is a step in that direction.

Tried it...........not too shabby! Altho, here in CT........along with higher gas prices......so are the wine $........it was closer to $10......which is still a steal.

Get away from the city and it really is a nice place...I went to Trader Joe's and got a nice Riesling for the summer. I'm just looking for a reason to pop it open as I don't think I'll be drinking a whole bottle on my own...

My all time favorite summer wine is a Vino Verde (Portugal). There are lots of good ones and a few bad ones but thankfully they are inexpensive enough to try an bunch and not break the bank.

I'm a sucker for a good Rose as well. Of course Alaska never really gets hot enough to really appreciate the "cooling" factor of these wines but there are ways to fake it.
