No doubt about it. Anyway, I'm not sure how they got it. My information was stolen from the Bank of New York Mellon, but I'm not sure if thats how whomever used it got it as I don't see why they'd have my CC#.

Anyway, they gave me two years of credit monitoring on the 3 major services using Triple Alert from Experian, so I took that. Hopefully they constant monitoring of my credit does not ding it up too badly.

I think Bobble is right that it might be your cellmates. Based on all the nice threads you make about them I have to believe they are class acts that would "borrow" your CC. Just as a joke of course.

Same thing happened to me Friday night/Saturday morning. First time ever in my life. Luckily a VISA person called me by 10:00 AM.

My in-laws in Connecticut had the same thing happen to them a few years ago--Visa was suspicious that they (in their late 60s at the time) had "bought" $1000 in video games and skateboard supplies in Montreal (the thought of my mother in law with those is pretty darned funny, but obviously it was a case of fraud) and got it fixed right away. Anyhow, Partial, sorry to hear about what happened to you.

That happened to Blake freshman year. Ridiculous hassle. Probably best to learn the lesson now rather than in a couple years when you are worth something. Bummer.

I don't know what the big deal is. I've had my number stolen three times and it's never been a problem. Two of the times I've notified the CC company, and the other they called me. We chat about how I don't make international porn site purchases, they cancel the card, and send a new one overnight.

I say forget the roommate theory. Your mom is obviously sick of taking care of all your shit and sold your info on-line to terrorists in an attempt to have you arrested by Homeland Security and sent to Camp X-Ray.

That sucks, dude. Visa should give you a call as they do monitor your purchases.

I travel a lot, and they're pretty leniant because they know my spending schedule. But when I travel out of the country, I have to call them before I leave...it's always a good idea to do so...because they'll freeze my card. The downside of that is they froze my card a bunch of times when I have been stuck at a place out of the country waiting for it to unfreeze.

I guess I must have some kind of monitoring with my VISA card. I was not aware. We have fairly random and diverse purchase patterns too; travel, etc. When the woman called, I waited for my wife to come home as I would have no idea what she had purchased online the previous 24 hours.

I was impressed w/VISA.
