Although it also felt like rural Wisconsin too up by Waimea.
I don't even know where to start, it's all so rad. The first time we were on the north side which was just wet enough, but not TOO wet. We rented a house and it was super chill. The second time, we got a condo on Kona, talk about perfect weather 24/7. We're renting a van this time because we want to get a little more immersed in the environment/culture. We're going to spent more time in Volcano, etc to get a better feel for that. I'd like to spend a nite on Mauna Kea, but I have to sell the wife on doing a "crash and dash" up there.

    • It's a work trip for my wife, so I have quite a bit of downtime. We stay at Hualalai so it's actually tough to get motivated to leave the resort. On her off day we go exploring. The waterfalls are amazing. I want to find the green sand beach this year. Tried last time and had no luck. We did end up walking ~2 miles off the road and found an amazing cliff overview where there were no houses.

The fact that I drove from a beach, through a desert, through a pine forest, through a rain forest, and ended up at 3200 feet above sea level where there were a bunch of cattle farms....that totally blew my mind. And the whole trip is like 3 hours.

      • Green sand beach is easy to find....you just have to go at low tide. Watch out for the locals on the trail there.

            • I love beer....and I love Hawaii. Hawaii needs some more creative breweries. Ok....that's out of the way. I love the big island as well. My wife and I still like to camp when we go...even in the Park where it can get a little cold at night...or near Hilo where it can rain like hell. Plus there are the locals.....

              • Was down south over the weekend and brought back a case each of Bourbon County Brand Stout, and the Bourbon County Barley wine (Goose Island). Damn the BCBS is always so good.

I agree. It's okay. I think it's found a niche with people who don't want much bitterness in their beer, but want more flavor than you get in the mass-produced beers. New Glarus makes several beers that I think are better.

exactly. It's New Glarus' Bass Ale or Sam Adams Lager equivalent.
