If Lincoln were alive today, he'd suspend your habeas corpus.

this is an East German commy spying on freedom-loving people in a movie from about 15 years ago.

This picture usually appears when one of the crackers in the forum wants to ridicule me as being a socialist.

not sure why it appeared in your discussion, it must have just felt right to HowardRoark.

It was a GREAT movie from Germany, can't remember the name.

I thought it was James Taylor in the recording booth.

A big no way to that!

The Habeus Corpus thing has already been discussed--Lincoln was a hard core fighter of terrorists by any means necessary--also a hard core military interventionist. He also, based on a lot of his statements, was surprisingly racist. He also was accomodating to his political enemies--something completely alien to the posture of Reid, Pelosi, and most of the higher level Dems. I have heard that Obama may be different--a little more Lincoln-esque--in this way. That remains to be seen, however.

Lincoln was also a populist at heart. In that respect, he would have a hard time finding a home with either party these days, both of which are saturated with inside-the-beltway types.

The closest thing to Lincoln nowadays would be what I call the good normal Americans--the Rush Limbaugh listeners, the generally apolitical but staunchly pro-American/patriotic types.

Obama actually campaigned in a way designed to appeal to this segment of the electorate. If he is smart enough as a politician to realize what got him elected, and conduct his presidency accordingly, then there may be hope for him. Unfortunately, I'm betting he's more of a thorough leftist ideologue who will drift closer and closer to the worst and most anti-American of his advisers and supporters. We'll see. In the realm of security, the fate of America may literally hang in the balance.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Das Leben der Anderen…..aka Lives of Others. You are correct Harlan, and excellent movie.

It was about a time in East Germany when the government controlled all the lives. They knew what everyone thought and said. Even inside their homes.

Much as the voice in the wilderness of Mr. Basket was stifled, so were the voices and lives of those who dared to speak up during this time. Is it so wrong to comment on the celebrites with their GEDs giving brilliant speeches to the masses, er, sheep? Why should that not be observed?

But he sure does look like James Taylor too.
After lunch the players lounged about the hotel patio watching the surf fling white plumes high against the darkening sky. Clouds were piling up in the west… Vince Lombardi frowned.

I think that's what's know as 'easy listening.'

What would be unpleasant, however, would be listening in on James Taylors' conversations.

You confusing him with Pres. Bush or Cheney and their way of thinking...........unless they still have 'party lines' up there in Lenox, MA....I doubt that James would be listening in on any phone coversations.....and definetly, not yours!
