It is very odd that I am not alone in feeling more outraged by this than I would be had I heard that someone hit your elderly neighbor in the head.

Seriously, it is strange psychological truth that people are more moved by hearing about cruelty against animals than they are by the numerous stories that they hear involving violence against people.

I have some ideas about why this is so, but it is a strange phenomenon nonetheless.

I've never been more disappointed in anything in my life than to find out that the origin of the term "jump the shark" involved Fonzie from the Pinky Tuscadero era. Until I finally looked it up it had seemed like such a cool phrase. Now it is dead to me, and I imagine anyone who uses it as my enemy. Zool escapes my wrath.
