I'm curious as to why someone would want multiple accounts? Other than to hide behind something.

I totally agree with the ban on multiple accounts rule that is set up here.

besides, who wants to remember another damn password to log in?

1.) APB/Tank did that John Holmes, MD PhD on the JSO and it was very funny. I think the idea there was not to hide, but to be funny. In that instance, it worked.

2.) If you didn't want multiple accounts with multiple passwords, you don't have to choose that route.

I think I asked this on the thread where the multiple accounts poll was taken, but I'll posit it here: What possible harm is there in multiple accounts, so long as each "account" behaves itself? Can anyone answer this question? I have yet to see any answer that is even remotely convincing.

The bits weren't that funny. Actually, I thought all of the alter egos were pretty lame. I'd rather have one account. Then we "know" who people are. Plus, it's less maintenance for the admins.

I agree that a lot of the bits weren't that funny. I don't know how you 'know' who people are just from a screen name. Harvey, you could be two or more different guys all logging in from the same computer in a house, at work, or in a dorm for all anyone knows here. And can you explain how it's more work for the administrator if the only criteria is good behaviour, and the poster behaves him/herself? If a poster misbehaves, isn't it pretty simple to IP ban the person and all accounts? And if it isn't simple, how do you know if someone hasd multiple accounts in the first place (pardon my ignorance on this issues, since I don't know how to do the multiple IP address and/or account trick). I'm still not convinced.

I think there were quite a few of us the figured Green Day's alter ego was the George W. Bush poster at JSO.

Whether you agree with it or not, the matter was put to a vote here at PR, and membership was overwhelmingly against posters using multiple accounts.

Hi Mazzin. Hope all is well with you and Tank. j/k.

You're right. But that doesn't change my position that I haven't heard one good argument against multiple accounts.

And I'm pretty certain that 'Greenday' and the George Bush guy were separate entities. To my knowledge, Greenday had just one account and only changed avatars and names a couple of times ('Winston Smith' and 'Gangreneday' if I recall correctly)

I can't believe I'm quoting myself. I think the phrase "In that instance, it worked" means that I thought the John Holmes bit was funny, but that other things were not. I didn't care much for the "Ted in the closet" poems, for example. This isn't hard to grasp, is it?

I had a really fun time posting periodically as Mike Sherman at JSO. To me, an additional account gave me the ability to have a different personality in the forum. Some would say having another personality is not necessary, but when your psyche is as fragmented and chaotic as mine, sometimes its therapeutic.

You can believe me when I say (unlike Tank evidentally) that I only have one account here. One account is enough work to keep me busy.
