For those of you who love great guitar - doesn't get much better than Gary Moore. He died in 2011.

Bonamassa does a tribute to him during his shows. Moore took Clapton's place with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce of Cream, called themselves BBM (Baker, Bruce, Moore).

He was one of the all-time great guitarists - love this version of Seperate Ways.

Very cool... you were lucky to see him - he didn't like coming to the states much. Don't think he played with Thin Lizzy much after the late 70's did he??

Coincidentally, he died on Superbowl Sunday, the day our Packers beat the Steelers. They determined he had too much to drink, went back to his hotel room and laid down. Guess he choked on his own vomit. Very sad, he was such a great musician.

A lot of guitarists pay homage to him - he certainly has a lot of respect among players. I love listening to him play... can make that guitar cry, that's for sure.

Here's Still Got The Blues from 1990. Maybe this was the tour you saw him on??

Do you like the very best World Class Artists ...if so ..it's right here.

This is a treat...stay with it for some great female vocals by Imogen Heap doing the vocal on "Blanket" and "Rollin and Tumbling" she's way too sexy/hot.... and also featured is the talented Joss Stone singing "People Get Ready".

Again you get to enjoy the wonderful bass guitar talent of Tal Wilkenfeld and check out the incredible energy of this sessions drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and Jason Rebello on keyboards,

This is a musical experience. TOP SHELF !

David Gilmour joining Roger Waters on The Wall to perform 'Comfortably Numb' at London's O2, May, 2011.

The Famous Lyrics of a song that defines life for so many.

What can anyone who enjoys music ever really say that would condemn one of the absolute foremost Rock Bands of our Rock fan times.... singing one of their ANTHEM SONGS.

You might stroll away from Pink Floyd for some time but as soon as you hear one of their songs you need a lot more than " a peanut butter Pink Floyd " fix. You need the full banquet to satisfy the need that your soul has been craving.

[QUOTE=wootah;717736]When someone in the UK says you're "Big in Belgium", they mean you think you are a big shot, but in fact you are nothing. Something like a big fish in a very very small pond.

Now I'm chauvinistic enough to think we have some great bands with great songs, regardless of our country's size. I've learned some great tracks via this thread, so now it's time to give back. I'm going to try to each week post one of our finest bands, made in Belgium. To make the transition easy, I'll start with the groups that sing in English.

I'm curious to see if you like it or not.

I'm going to start with Absynthe Minded, a rockband with a lot of jazz influences. Their 2 top songs (IMO) are Envoi and My Heroics, Part 1. Enjoy it...

Can't find it on video, so here's Gordon's version:[QUOTE]

Gordon Lightfoot is more than good. He's arguably My one of if not Country's greates contribution to music and there are many solid Canadian artists that managed to offer the Canadian style of music to the world stage. Too many to get into. Too many I expect the American public isn't aware of. Most Americans have difficulty grasping simple things like where the capitol of Canada is. They believe it's in an Americanized Toronto.

Don't make any special purchase of snowshoes or skies to travel to Canada in June - Nov. Pass that on as your friends maybe?.... desiring the privilege (s) of travel to Canada might otherwise be disappointed by not having any need of those.

We actually study American history in school. We're educated to look south to learn a lot.

Re-focusing on Music:

Lightfoot has looked more and more in failing health. He's so thin, I wonder if he'll survive another winter? He worked much of his early career very close to where I reside. We often shop in in Orillia, Ontario....about 35 minutes drive from Mae and my home on Georgian Bay.

The first time I saw my Sis's guy Dan play and sing the "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzerald", my heart hurt. I found tears in my eyes. Dan covered this awesome song very well. It's also one of my favourites to perform with a strong East coast accent.

I love that man as much as I did Stompin' Tom Connors who we will forever miss and enjoy through his special songs and performance style.

I'm very proud to offer this great Lightfoot song:

The video of Black Sabbath's Paranoid. In post #7981.

I set down a "LIVE" video of that as well on post #7952...Live @JFK Stadium... was it Philly !?

Here's a clean Sabbath piece entitled "Heaven and Hell". The quality of this is excellent.

Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell (HD)

Sing me a song, you're a singer
Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The devil is never a maker
The less that you give, you're a taker
So it's on and on and on, it's heaven and hell
Oh well

That song is set down for driving. Rock like that strips away the miles from the highway. It offers a lot. I enjoy the versatility of it...especially the reverb on lead guitar and the almost sweet ending. An interesting Sabbath number all around. I hope you liked it. :-)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/17/DarylStuermerGenesis.jpg/330px-DarylStuermerGenesis.jpg

The next posts will focus on David Stuermer born November 27, 1952 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from St. Francis High School (1970). He was discovered playing with his Milwaukee band Sweetbottom. Stuermer was backing up jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty in 1975.The first albums I heard these two play on was "Imaginary Voyage (1976) and "Enigmatic Ocean" (1977). His style of guitar playing blew me away. I was at the end of my 20's and I had a ton more to experience as I wrapped myself into Jazz. I was honed on Rock. Most chose the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five and Herman's Hermits. I wanted the Stones and Eric Burdon and the Animals. Earlier I like Elvis, Johnny Cash ( My Father), Roy Orbison, Dion, the Everley Brothers, the Letterman, Gene Pitney, Chuck Berry etc. or too many. Suddenly I was experiencing the English Invasion and the beginning of music with a whole new edge.

So what can I find. This will be an exciting trip back in time for me. Ok Mates and Lassie's it's right here:

Jean-Luc Ponty - Daryl Stuermer – guitar - Allan Zavod – keyboards and piano -Tom Fowler – electric bass and Steve "the Animal " Smith percussion; Wow ! Is this Steve Smith with all that hair? :-)

Note: The drummer Steve "the Animal" Smith (Journey) played drums for Jean-Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean (1977). He's famous as Journey's drummer.

This is fun to watch and is this Journey's Steve Smith? I think it is. Why...because that Steve with hair. :-) 10 minutes of what a drummer is. Making it look almost easy...Steve "the Animal" Smith. Aaaaammmaaziiinnng.

Steve Elliott "The Animal" Smith (born on August 21, 1954 in Whitman, Massachusetts) is an American drummer who has worked with hundreds of artists in his career, but is mostly known for being the drummer of the rock band Journey, during their peak years of success.

Modern Drummer magazine readers voted him the #1 All-Around Drummer five years in a row.

In 2001, Modern Drummer named Steve as one of the Top 25 Drummers of All Time, and in 2002 he was voted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame.
