  • Here's one thing I thought was funny. Remember how people were worried yesterday that Jolly was out of practice?
Also, defensive tackle Johnny Jolly is expected to return today. He sat out Tuesday after getting a couple teeth pulled earlier in the week. http://www.piercecountyherald.com/ar...property_id=13
I wonder what they used for anesthetic....

A couple of teeth pulled? The guy is getting braces or he needs to learn how to floss.

Man...we need Jolly on the team and out of Texas jails for the defense to really do the job they have to to give Rodgers and the offense the cushion they may need early.

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

"A bidding war is going on".....I heard some talk on the radio that TB wanted to send Garcia north in a Favre deal and that we would then turn around and trade Garcia? Strange days indeed.....

I read that as being the plan while Wells is day to day with his injury. Still an encouraging sign though.

                  • August 6th Evening: Offensive play of the day
Take your pick of the Aaron Rodgers-to-James Jones connections. During the last two team (11-on-11) periods, the two hooked up four times.

First, Jones made a nice tip-toe catch along the sidelines, dragging his second foot to get it in bounds, when Rodgers had rolled right and fired. Then Rodgers and Jones took advantage of a coverage bust by safeties Tyrone Culver and Jarrett Bush, and Jones was wide open deep for an easy bomb. Moments later, Rodgers was scrambling to his right, and Jones started to come back for the ball, only to turn and head downfield instead, getting behind CB Patrick Lee, and Rodgers hit him in stride. Then in the final team period, Rodgers hit Jones deep over the middle for a big gain to set up a touchdown for the first-team offense to close their work for the evening

It looks like both Jones and Rodgers have gotten their groove back now that the miasma of overbearing fans and national media has lifted. Looks like Jones may hang onto that roster spot after all. Now if he can just hang onto the ball too...

No worries though, BallHawk. Ruvell's continuing to impress.
                    Offensive play of the day
During team (11-on-11) work, WR Ruvell Martin made a nifty catch on a crossing route on a throw by QB Aaron Rodgers. Reaching out with his right arm, Martin got a hand on the ball and tipped it toward himself, hauling it in over the middle and barely breaking stride.

                      • D'oh: Orrin Thomas was carted off with a sprained ankle and Rouse has a hip flexor injury. Also, Wynn dropped two easy passes... I'm losing my hope for the guy.

On the plus side, GBPG was waxing poetic about how well Rodgers did tonight:
Brett who? If Aaron Rodgers keeps this up, he might make Packers fans forget about a certain future Hall of Fame quarterback.

                        • These are nice.

                          8:08 p.m.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers looked impressive during team drills. It was as if the cloud of Brett Favre had dissipated over his head, the way he performed tonight.

Rodgers scrambled out of the pocket on a third-and-5 play for a long gain and a first down. He had a string of five straight completions stopped when running back DeShawn Wynn dropped an easy pass in the flat. Rodgers also had a pair of touchdown passes during a red-zone team drill, firing one score to wide receiver Chris Francies and another to wide receiver Jordy Nelson. Rodgers’ only hiccup during the drill came when linebacker Abdul Hodge batted down one of his passes at the line of scrimmage.

                          8:41 p.m.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers continued his impressive practice this evening. During a team drill, he had a free play when the defense jumped offside and hit a wide-open James Jones perfectly in stride on a deep pass. A few plays later, Rodgers rolled right and hit Jones again along the right sideline on a pass over the outstretched of rookie cornerback Pat Lee.

                          8:57 p.m.

Brett who? If Aaron Rodgers keeps this up, he might make Packers fans forget about a certain future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Rodgers directed an 80-yard scoring drive during a team drill late in tonight’s practice. It included another deep pass to wide receiver James Jones. The march concluded with a 4-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Greg Jennings on a slant.

I'm not sure. Must be nice to have some of the shadow gone.

In the two practices combined, Rodgers completed 31 of 39 passes. He had an interception in the morning practice. He was 18-of-22 in evening session, and two of the incompletions were Wynn’s drops.

Second-stringer Brian Brohm was 11-of-19 with an interception (also in the morning practice), while third-stringer Matt Flynn went 7-of-9.
This makes me feel so much better about our upcoming season. I was sincerely disappointed in the offense's level of play at the scrimmage, but things are definitely looking up.
