DID FAVRE PREFER BUCS TO JETS?

Posted by Mike Florio on August 7, 2008, 12:54 a.m.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN suggested on the air not long ago that the Packers pulled the trigger on the trade of quarterback Brett Favre to the Jets even though Favre preferred being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If that’s accurate, then this thing might not be over.

    Great.

    Stay tuned.

Mort just said that in last 20-30 min that Jets GM convinced Brett to report and Brett agreed.

      Seems over.

IMO it's common knowledge Favre preferred TB over the Jets
IMO it's common knowledge that the Jets offered the better deal
IMO it's common knowlege TT doesn't give a shit what Favre prefers
And on this one I'd take the best offer as well

Yup; hopefully we don't have to wait for the next HOF quarterback to show up before we win another one
I guess I'm hoping that we already have the next HOF quarterback, and we won't have to wait too long to win another one.

              The Post's immediate article:

Originally posted by New York Post
"I am looking forward to seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets uniform," owner Woody Johnson said. "He represents a significant addition to this franchise, and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible product on the field. (GM) Mike Tannenbaum and his football administration staff did a great job of navigating this complex process. I am excited about welcoming Brett, (his wife) Deanna and their family to the Jets organization."

The Jets' stunning acquisition of Favre makes them matter again on the New York football landscape, where the Giants have always owned the city, particularly now as defending Super Bowl champions.

The Jets spent more than $140 million in the offseason on new talent to bolster a team that went 4-12 in 2007. Among the offseason work the Jets did was revamp the offensive line with the signings of LG Alan Faneca and RT Damien Woody.

Those signings were surely attractive to Favre.

So, too, was a conversation he had with Eric Mangini on Tuesday night during which Mangini gave Favre the hard sell on why coming to New York was the move for him to make.

Mangini told Favre of the team's new state-of-the-art practice facility that the Jets will move into in September. He informed him of the attractive places to live in the New Jersey area and the fact that playing in New York could be a huge marketing and promotional opportunity for him.
Practice facilities? Endorsement/marketing opportunities? Why the crap would either of those swing Favre's mind?
I believe in God, family, Baylor University, and the Green Bay Packers.

Maybe it's Rodgers. Maybe it's Brohm. Remember, we have 2 very highly rated QB prospects on our roster still. With numbers comes better odds. Keep in mind we have an excellent coach in Mike McCarthy, whose expertise is in grooming QB's. I think we are still in excellent hands.

As a Packers fan, I am very happy about this.

As a part-time Bills fan, I am very sad.

                      253

Consecutive games Brett Favre started as a Packer

                      15

Number of quarterbacks the Jets have used in that span.

What's the only thing as weird as seeing Brett Favre playing for another team? Seeing him wearing a different number
Naw... Glenn Foley is a shitty QB they had...

It would be like us acquiring a new QB and someone here saying "i guess we gotta break lynn dickey's jersey out of retirement"

I am relieved that this is over, and at the same time saddened that we have to watch our great hero wear another uniform. It sure will be odd.

We should all be rooting for BF and the Jets - both for BF's sake (that he continues to have a great career) and for our team's sake (that we get the very best compensation possible).

Rumors are that if the Jets make the playoffs it is a 2nd rounder and it is a 1st rounder if hey make the SB.

Also, it is time for those idiots to stop hassling AR and get on the train. The Packers will be good team this year and we have much to hope for.

While sitting in the bar tonight, it was a surreal experience to see the breaking news hit ESPN. Man, what a sad day. While watching the top 10 Favre moments, I just about shed a tear, knowing how we treated such a great player so poorly. I grew up with Favre. My first memory was the run against Atlanta. I was but a wee lad then, and was watching the game in my basement with my Dad.

I cannot believe that the all-time great Packer will play for another franchise. I'm in shock over the reality finality of it all.

What a sad day to live in Wisconsin and be a Packer fan. I thought we were better than this. Evidently not.

Favre had an expect last year, and to the idiots who say he faded late last season:
Week 17 - two touchdowns in the first quarter, absolutely lights out before sitting down
Week 16 - had a bad game against Chicago in the 3rd coldest game in NFL history, with 40+ mph swirling winds in all directions
Week 15 - Set the all-time record for consecutive completions in a lights out performance after Grant's horrific two early fumbles and playing from behind in a stadium he has historically had a hard time.
Week 15 - Two touchdowns and a 115 quarterback ranking against a very good defense.
Week 14 - Injured in game, played within the gameplan McCarthy gave him (which was poor as they didn't have any time).

I could keep going, but its unnecessary as he rattled off 5 consecutive games over 100+ qb rating.

Man, what a season! I am going to miss him and I'm sure we all as fans will.
