  • Parsons and Garrett trades compared.

I thought it might be interesting to compare these two trades:

Packers got Parson's at age 26, going into his 5th season.
Dallas got: 2026 & 2027 1st Rd draft picks and Kenny Clark, age 29 entering 10th season, a two-time pro bowler.

Rams got Garrett at age 30, going into his 10th season
    Browns got: 2027 1st, 2028 2nd and 2029 3rd round picks, plus Jared Verse, age 25, entering his 3rd season, a two-time Pro Bowler and 2024 DRoY.

Patler did you lose wifi mid-post?
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

      My initial thoughts:

      - At the time of the trade, Parsons was still an ascending player with many prime years. remaining.
      - Garrett was absolutely outstanding in 2025, BUT at age 30 has few prime years remaining. He is certainly closer to the end of his career than to the start of it.
      - Verse is a young ascending player who has barely started his career, but has made a strong impact already.
      - Clark is a steady vet, but with a lot of mileage.
      - The draft pick compensations, consecutive years 1st rounds vs. consecutive years 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks aren't a lot different.

When you look at where the four players involved are at in their careers, I think the Browns did quite well compared to the Cowboys.

I was hoping to get the edited post entered before anyone noticed! Hopefully, it makes sense now.

( I "tabbed" a couple times like I did on the old board, which would automatically indent, and the partial message posted before i realized what happened!)

Yeah, I am still figuring out the shortcuts too. I'd like to eliminate the preview image from web links for instance.

If the Browns had put Garrett on the trade block last year (which a lot of people think should have happened), would Gute have gone after Garrett or Parsons?

And by extrapolation, the Packers did better than the Rams.

As much as I like Garrett, I'd rather have Parsons, because of his youth.

Verse is still ascending, Clark, not so much.

              Thanks, Jerry.

Agreed. The Cowboys gave up a young ascending superstar for an aging player and two hopefuls. The Browns gave up a long-in-the-tooth (even more super) superstar for a young proven star player and three hopefuls. The Cowboys could end up with little of nothing. The Browns have at least a proven player with a long career ahead of him.

Granted I’m a homer but I agree that the Packers got the slightly better deal even though Garrett is (as of last few years) a more dominant player and the Browns only gave up one first instead of two.

                  Reasons being:
                  • Packers were likely to cut Clark the following year due to cost and age.
                  • Parsons is younger and in the prime of his career and thus ascending whereas Garrett is likely in the decline soon
                  • Jared Verse is arguably worth 2 number ones by himself (drafted in the first round, a budding star and still 2 years on a cheap contract with a 5th year option as well) and picks-wise for the Browns it was in my eyes: (3) first round picks, a second round pick and a 3rd round pick while the Packers gave up (2) first round picks and Clark who was worth at best 2nd and more likely a 3rd or 4th based on age and contract.
60% of the time it works every time.

I think if I was a Rams fan, I'd be pissed off about the trade. Verse is what? 90% as good as Garret right now? 80%? 70%? And barring the unforeseen in either direction, in 2 or 3 or 4 years, Verse will still be at the top of his game while Garret will either be gone or greatly diminished. And that's not even talking about the draft picks.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Based on what happened last year, Verse is not close to Garrett. Garrett had 23 sacks, 33 TFL's and 39 QB hits, despite being the most double teamed DE in the NFL. Only Parsons is comparable. Verse is a good, young player, but mostly potential at this point. Verse in 2025 had 7.5 sacks, 11 TFL's and 22 QB hits.
