He was bound to have a bad game sooner or later. Good that it was on a day it didn't matter. He has experienced it, now must get over it. From all that I have heard, he has the mindset of top cornerbacks who give up touchdowns. He doesn't agonize over it, or lose confidence, We'll see what the next couple weeks bring.Originally posted by pittstang5 View PostSmack missing an XP and two FGs is not good....at home. Rookies pains, but that can hurt the Pack when we need him to make kicks.

It was quite windy. This summer he had issues at practice on windy days. He has some work to do there. On the last one he may have overcompensated to the right after missing 2 to the left.Originally posted by Patler View Post

I wondered about the wind, and if maybe he overcorrected.Originally posted by Joemailman View Post

Several past Packers kickers have talked about how confusing the wind action can be inside the stadium, and that it takes time to really understand it. Apparently, the direction can change at different elevations under some wind conditions. I don't understand why they don't bring in Crosby for a couple days to go into the stadium with Smack to give whatever insight he might have.

Still a matter of "time to throw." Today he was releasing the ball when he should, on time. Prior to today, often he was "late" because at the time he should have been throwing he was already trying to evade the rush. That's the benefit of pressure on the QB, it disrupts timing, forcing the QB to release early or late.Originally posted by MadtownPacker View PostAppeared Love was getting his passes off quicker. The ball was ahead of WRs a few times where they might have made the play on the run. Last couple weeks seemed they had to slow down and the defense was able to make the play.

The Bears are not great in the secondary and their pass rush is also not special. They couldn't cover Watson and Golden for long, and the OL held up long enough.
Love was on a heater today. He was also hitting on some big plays against MIN before the pressure finally caused the pass pro to cave in and he got antsy.
Last week they did a lot more quick game, this week was more varied and seemed to have more deep shots, likely because of the confidence from last week.
It's a little wild to consider that bringing a greybeard from another team's PS and a deep reserve from the bench has brought some OL stability. It speaks to how poorly Jennings and Monk really were and how badly the OL coaching judged its squad. I'm also assuming they have really simplified their protection calls and made major emphasis on certain fundamentals, as they were JV high school bad against ATL.
I don't think they want to live by the deep shot, those are not high percentage. Presumably the matchups will dictate it. I'd bet they go more quick game vs. DAL, maybe do some misdirection to fool Rashan lol. I have to rewatch the game but on first glance I think Kraft is starting to play better. GB still doesn't have much of a run game, which maybe Zeitler can help with. Continuing to have less penalties and drops will help too.
It really helped that they jumped out to an early lead also. The defense was pretty good today, although CHI still got some good runs in it didn't seem like they could stay in rhythm for long.
The injuries are getting ridiculous for this team.
I hope Smack figures out the winds in Lambeau. I know Santos also missed one he normally would make, so I give the rookie some rope. (Plus he's played well so far.) He'll need to learn from this though, you can't leave 7 points on the field and win often. McManus knows about that.

What a list! Only missing Starr and he wouldn't have thrown for that many in his era.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I think this points to the talent not being the key question but experience. Tomlinson solves that in spades on the left and Glover knows tackle from previous years, camps and preseason which gives him something to draw from.Originally posted by run pMc View PostIt's a little wild to consider that bringing a greybeard from another team's PS and a deep reserve from the bench has brought some OL stability. I am surprised Monk struggled as much as he did with getting calls and assignments correct. He's not a newb to the Packers either.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.
