Rush. Really?Originally posted by SparkeySince Peart was NOT the original drummer for RUSH, your sarcastic comparative is inaccurate.Originally posted by Tyrone BiggunsWould mint chocolate chip be mint chocolate chip without mint?Originally posted by SparkeyWould RUSH be RUSH without the Professor on percussion ?Originally posted by Tyrone BiggunsCan't really disagree (argument could be made for peart), though stephen morris is my fav.Originally posted by Freak OutBest rock drummer ever IMHO.Originally posted by WaldoWas a very good drummer.
Great drummer, human metronome....and then stepped out from behind the drums and created the famous programmed drum beat in history.
Rush blows.

I saw King CRIMSON in the early 80s and bought my way in to the hall to watch warm ups.....I was just mesmerized by Fripp practicing...you talked about the drummer that was "the human metronome" well Fripp was just robotic while practicing. I have to say I have never heard another guitar sound like Fripp would produce with his synth guitar.Originally posted by Tyrone Biggunsty caught him when he toured with something like 30 other guitarists...think it was offshoot of crafty guitaristsOriginally posted by Freak OutOriginally posted by Tyrone Biggunsdo you think fripp woulda tolerated such a mistake? It was Palmer who was the drummer, Ras.
I saw Emerson, Lake and Palmer at the old Olympia Stadium in Detroit. Girl in front of us on the main floor was stoned out of her gourd on god-knows-what, wailed the whole time.
And then they didn't play Karn evil 9. I was too stoned to be bummed, though."The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

Yep. the guys is a serious freak. I saw crimson as well. Ty actually had The Court back in 7th...around 78 or so.Originally posted by Freak OutI saw King CRIMSON in the early 80s and bought my way in to the hall to watch warm ups.....I was just mesmerized by Fripp practicing...you talked about the drummer that was "the human metronome" well Fripp was just robotic while practicing. Have you done any research on him..the alternative tuning? In a way he is like Zappa...i know he is really, really smart..but, sometimes it is just too smart for me and i don't really enjoy it. Think of the king in Amadeus "too many notes".
I had, years ago...the stuff he did with Andy Summers. He also was in the League of Gent with sara lee...who was the bassist in Gang of Four and later toured with the B-52s.
That is why i appreciate him..he isn't stuck in the past, playing with the same old prog rockers in "new" bands like asia, etc. He is out there with Blondie, David Byrne, Eno, and David Sylvain (japan...another hugely influential new wave/new romantic band).
His wife was a punker...talk about different gens.
Watching fripp brought back memories of my stern piano teacher making me do scales for hours on end. Precision, precision, precision.

But I thought this thread was about drummers...or safeties.Originally posted by RastakOriginally posted by FritzIt was Palmer who was the drummer, Ras.

Wait, Wasn't Carnell Lake a safety? For King Crimson?"The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

My subtlety is lost on you, Ras.
I connect drummers to safeties. I call up old school references, I immediately connect them to football players like Carnell Lake.
I'm a magician, I'm a writer, I show you this, you see that.
Try staying with me, Ras."The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."
