NFL.com says he can shed blocks. Maybe they are worried about Jolly.
Neal is an average sized interior lineman that will need to play a three technique in a 4-3 defensive scheme. Neal is a tough hard-nosed lineman that gives consistent effort throughout the game. He doesn’t have elite size and is inconsistent to anchor versus double teams but can hold the point when he plays with good pad level. Neal has active hands and does a nice job to shed blockers. He is active in the tackle box showing good lateral quickness and agility but doesn’t have great range to the sideline. He can power rush effectively but needs to expand his moves and counters to contribute consistently at the next level. Neal is a good football player that has some limitations but should contribute in his rookie season and possibly work into a starting role.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Mike Neal is a 3-4 DE. We just don't need any depth there. This one is a headscratcher. Why didn't we draft Cody if we wanted depth on our DL? It' s not like Mike Neal is going to be a special teams, 10-12 plays at end per game kind of guy. Bizarre pick, can't wait to see our grade on this one.

Mike Neal was possibly the most dominating defensive lineman during the week of practice at the East-West Shrine Game. He consistently beat offensive linemen off the ball and looked even quicker than he had at Purdue. He registered 2 tackles during the game, and because he can play in the 4-3 or 3-4, may have raised his stock into the late second round.
Neal was again impressive during Senior Bowl week, showing his quickness off the ball during practices. He tallied 1 tackle and 0.5 tackles for loss during the game, and continues to be a late second or early third round prospect.

Don't know anything about him, but I'm not surprised. I said a few days ago that we might go DE. Jenkins is a UFA next year. Same with Jolly. Plus, he has legal issues.
Just remember the reaction when no name S Nick Collins was picked in round 2 and Greg Jennings was picked ahead of Chad Jackson in round, so don't go jumping off the deep end just yet."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson
