Long arms. It's harder to lift 225 with long arms than it is with short arms... At least, that's what I've heard.

TT and company do their homework. This guy has LT feet. It will be interesting to see how he pans out. He wasn't as proven as the other guys.
Let's see, whose scouting judgement do I trust more fully....Thompson's or Gruden's...hmmm....let me think...

My guess here is that TT took offers to trade down, but didn't want to go down too far and didn't get an offer he liked well enough, so he took the solid, safe, good pick. I like it. I'm good with it.

And it's only one pick, anyway. TT is most masterful compared to other GM's in the later rounds.

          • Benching 225 only 23 times isn't good, but at the same time you have to factor in the length of this guys arms. I haven't researched but benching is a bitch if you have long arms. He looks big, but lanky. He has the agility to get his foot work right.

Not a pick that is going to burn anybody. Probably won't be all pro, but it gives this coaching staff another young offensive linemen. I assume Bulaga has the inside track at left tackle if Clifton goes down.

I don't like either Bulaga or Sherrod as a guard

Also, Carolina has just bankrupted their franchise.

Also Mark Ingram Senior is a criminal serving a prison term, I don't need to have his emails read on National TV.

            • I don't see where anybody is thinking Sherrod is an RT. From what I've seen and read, he's pretty much only a left tackle. He's a long, athletic, nimble big guy who's primarily a pass blocker. If that doesn't scream "Clifton's replacement" I don't know what would.

Sherrod backs up Clifton for a year and starts at LT in year two.

The only thing I'm worried about is his pad level.

Of all the OL at the Combine only Tyron Smith (36 3/8), Jarriel King (36 3/8), Ben Ijalana (36), and Joseph Barksdale (36) had longer arms than Sherrod (35 3/8). Tyron Smith was the #9 overall pick and put up 29 reps, Jarriel King did not lift at the combine or his pro day, nor did Ben Ijalana, while Barksdale put up 29 but is not nearly the athlete that Sherrod is and does not project to left tackle in the NFL. 23 reps is fine for a long-armed OL who doesn't need to start right away. Remember that OL aren't usually the guys who put up huge numbers on the bench. Bulaga's arms are 2.5" shorter than Sherrod's and Bulaga only put up 26 on the bench.

                  • Putting on about 10 lbs of beef while he sits behind Clifton would help the pad level problem.

                    • it was a fair value pick; I was speaking with a friend at work today and we asked each other if we got 20-1 odds and had to name two players who we'd predict would be Packers who would they be ? I predicated Ingram, and I think that is what GB wanted if he slipped with the first option and Sherrod as option #2. . Sherrod just seemed like the only grade one OT that could slip to us. He's not a guy to get too excited about short term; he was probably the 6th best OT in the draft. But he seems like he can be athletic enough to protect the passer and be a steady player for years to come.

For the instant gratification guys (I often find myself guilty), we'd have rather seen a trade down and then hoped to pick up a guy like Reed or Moch to start right away.

But this guy fit a need we have so he made sense.

                          • All in all, everything read up until this point... I like the pick. I thought he would be gone before us. Like many, I'm surprised Bowers is still on the boad. I think Sherrod is a very berry good pick up for the pack though and I can see him covering quite well for Cliffy when he takes his eventual 3 game Flu, bad knee, bad other knee break this year.

                            • Love the pick. My top guys were been Ingram, Sherrod or Aaron Williams. This is a deep OT draft, and this is a legit 1st round talent at LT. To me, LT is the second most important player behind QB. We now likely have two guys to protect Aaron Rodgers for the next 10 years. I didn't find too many people who didn't like this guy--unlike Ayers, Heyward, Reed, and others that I looked at.

                              • Great pick! Beluga on the right, to kick keester and give us some nasty roadgrading for the run game, and Sherrod on the left to take care of the blind side. This really does set up well for the future. I'm very happy with this pick, as we are slooowly getting the pieces for a solid OL.
