He fits the usual protocol of having a long career and being past his prime, but he actually had a pretty good album in 2010 that no one heard, so he still has chops and can put on an energetic show. Mellencamp can also pair pretty well with a female singer with younger appeal -- for me, that would be Missy Elliot, but I could see Adele or someone like that.
