Well, at the very least Flynn's performance today likely guarantees a contract sufficient to make the 2013 compensatory pick the Packers would receive for him a 3rd round pick rather than a later compensatory.

Unless Matt Flynn thinks he will get a better deal on the open market. He can force the tag decision by not negotiating with the team the Packers select. Then its either tag or FA. I don't see it happening, its not in his interest to do it.

True...but if the Packers tell him they are going to tag him regardless and not give him ANY say in where he goes, wouldn't it be in his benefit to work with Green Bay to find the best case scenario for all parties? I guess it comes down to how much Thompson feels we need to resign Finley, since we would probably have to franchise Finley to keep him.

If I were Flynn's advisers and I saw a $15 million payday for NOT playing, I would sign it in a heartbeat. Then the Packers would need to come clean, admit they don't want a $15 mil/yr backup and trade him in a firesale to a team HE could chose since he would need to agree to renegotiate his deal.

Very doable...if Flynn goes to free agency, then it becomes a free for all. A few teams will be very interested in getting him prior to free agency. The Browns with Holmgren at the helm come to mind...who also have a spare 1st round pick. If they can't get Luck, they can get Flynn...which is probably the better move anyway.

But, Flynn got lucky tonight thanks to how the season ended for the Packers. He got to showcase his stuff ad nauseum against a playoff-bound team and division rival.

I think the Packers should be compensated! If they can't get picks, Flynn should cut the team in on 10% of his first contract!!

Probably takes a GM on the other team who knows the player well, as with KC and NE. Seattle comes to mind for Flynn.

Cassell got packaged with a player (Mike Vrabel) so if you try to tag and trade Flynn, you might have to package a player.

It's always an issue to try to balance the salary cap with what players want. Wells may have the Packers by the short hairs here.

I think you are right; my guess is Teddy would like to play his guards and centers in the 3-4MIL range unless they are superstars but Wells may have played himself to at least 5.5MIL per year and maybe more

I'm more than happy to be wrong, but I think too many in here are lighting up the Homer Cigar in regards to Flynn. He's gone via free agency. And most teams know that and if they give him the moolah they can have him w/o giving up picks
