  • Jolly Applies for Reinstatement

Packers hold his rights. Told Biggs at NFP he weighs 332 and worked out 2-3 times per day while in the pokey. Screen defense might not be a problem this year if he could make the roster. Jolly is all run stopper, base defense and DB in a DTs body. He will not aid the pass rush and he is not a prototype 5 tech body like Wilson.

Edit: He had access to workouts 2 times a day usually, 3 times per day in Daylight Savings. Not sure how many he actually attended.

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I hope the commish does the right thing, which it to say the packer thing. I don't want to get my hopes up, tho.

Well, Blue Dog, it's the slow season, so let's slurp up the kook aid. Er, kool aid.

It'd be a miracle if A) Jolly were reinstated and B) The Packers let him come back and then C) He was in good enough shape to warrant a roster spot.

Now could they PUP him after making up a fake injury?

Maybe he can be the 3rd string RB. Or seventh WR.

If Vick and Burris could return after a prison sentence, why not Jolly?

              Good point.

I hope he's reinstated, I hope the Packers give him another shot, I hope he stays clean, I hope he returns to form and can be dominant for the Pack.

              That's alot of hoping there.

The NFL is full of guys that have broken the law so I don't know why J-Drank shouldn't get another shot.

I want him back... if he could pick up where he left off, he'd immediately be in the rotation. That's a big if though.

I think if he can reinstate an animal murderer, he'd have to have a pretty damn good reason not to reinstate Jolly.

No real reason not to reinstate him given the rest of the lot given second chances. My real question is the contract. I don't remember if restricted tenders are usually guaranteed when signed, but I doubt that would hold given he didn't show up for the contract for 2 years. Another shot is fine, but there is no way he should get $2M for it. So no matter what he will have to be cut first.

I see no reason why Jolly won't get another chance...I'm just not sure he will prove to be anything close to what he was previously. Being out that long has some negative repercussions typically. I'm fine with giving the guy a second chance, but I'm not counting on anything from him at this point. If we get anything, it's gravy.

Sure, I'd give him a shot but I'd put a clause in his contract that if he gets suspended, he doesn't get paid.
                            Thanks Ted!

I'm not sure the league will relent...because Jolly was arrested four times. It's not like he goofed up once, or even twice. And it really wasn't even that long ago he last was arrested. He's only been sober for eight months now.

But I hope they do reinstate him. But here's another angle on the Packers' inviting him back: whether he's lost much in the long term is one question (or how much has he lost?), but another question is this: can he get into playing shape to be of use in the beginning of the season? With Hargrove and Neal both out for the beginning of the year, the Pack is going to need functional d-linemen right away. Could they afford to keep Jolly - whom, it would seem, would not be very effective initially - in the hopes he'd get some of his mojo back eventually?
