They can sign him to a low dollar deal or make it incentive based with few to no guarantees. But paychecks under suspension are covered under the CBA. Same for everyone.

Not necessarily. Is there any reason that they could not restructure his deal? They did it with Driver.

I'm not sure. His contract came from a restricted tender which may have additional regulations (which may or may not be in play given the suspension and that the contract was signed under the previous CBA). My guess is that they have to cut to resign, but I'd like to see some reporter look into it.

Jolly to lead the team in picks this year!

When he steps onto the field in Minneapolis or Chicago or Detroit, will the opposing team's field announcer play "Purple Haze" over the loudspeakers?

I remember the 2007 season. We had Kamp, Jolly, KGB, Jenkins, Pickett and Corey Williams in the rotation.

Kamp, Jolly, Pickett and Jenkins were our starters.

Williams and KGB were our pass rush specialists off the bench, and gave the other guys breathers.

We were a top 10 defense. I believe we were like 8-1 or something like that. KGB blew out his knee and ended his career (I think he already had darn near 8 or 10 sacks at that point.) Jolly went down, forcing Williams to play more (his play dipped.)

We started to get gashed all over, in the run and pass. As magical as that season began, losing 2 of our top 6 DL in a 4-3 defense had our defense drop from top 10 to bottom 10 in a matter of 6 or 7 weeks. We were losing games down the stretch. The offense was peaking, but the defense was crumbling.

I guess my point is, Johnny Jolly is a good player and although he might not be a star, if you have a guy on the bench who is legit, it rests everyone else so everyone is better, not to mention his play being good in itself. Jolly, the way he was, would help. A lot.

Big if. I'll go ahead and classify it as a doubt.

                Raji
                Pickett
                Worthy
                Daniels

(Jolly, Hargrove, Neal, Wynn, Merling, Lawrence Guy and CJ Williams) fighting it out for 2 spots.

I like the odds anyway. And we're going to have to keep 2 inactive for 4 and 8 games respectively. If we start the year with, oh, lets say. . . Jolly and Jarius Wynn, we get to bring in the fresh legs as the season goes on and give the lesser players the axe. I do like our chances of having a good DL this year. I'm really hoping Jolly kept himself in shape while he was in the slammer.

Jolly, if he could play, would go a long way to ensuring Pickett finishes the season fresh. maybe even Raji if Pick can then rest Raji.

If Jolly plays near the level he used to play and Worthy is as good as we hope we will have a very good to great dline. TT has certainly adressed this area of weakness.

Daniels is going to get IR'ed or pupped. So I see it like this.

                      First 4 weeks

                      Pickett
                      Raji
                      Worthy
                      Jolly
                      (Guy,Wynn,Williams)

                      Next 4 weeks
                      Picket
                      Raji
                      Worthy
                      Jolly
                      Neal

Next 8 weeks we carry 6 dlinemen.

                      Pickett
                      Raji
                      Worthy
                      Hargrove
                      Neal
                      Jolly

Sure are a lot of people assuming he's gonna be able to play again.

If he gets reinstated does he immediately become part of our active roster or do we get to bring him in for a physical before we have to cut him or someone else? No harm in kicking the tires, but how on earth is he going to be ready to play? Even if he makes the 90 I can't see him making the 53. It's pretty obvious they want to add pass rush and he doesn't give any.

The only way I see him making it, barring injury, is if we keep six and they decide that they want to be able to field a massive three man front at times. And that he looks like a better all around player than Muir or Wilson.

I hope they go whole hog and ask for a roster exemption so they can observe him workout a while should he be reinstated. Might depend on contract situation though.

Why not? 29, not that old for a DL, one with no real injury history. Not like he has to worry about losing a step. Biggest question is, the first time he gets hit, does he go 'ow, damn, that hurts!'
