It's a legitimate tie in. The "press" has demonstrated that journalism is dead these past four years. This story just proves it isn't just politics. NO ONE researches anything anymore beyond google and wikipedia, both of whom have pretty open political and social agendas.

I was going to ponder on the same thought before, but since I give less than a flying fuck about Noter Dame, I didn't even hear of the original story, much less see how it was covered. I don't expect any real reporting out of ESPN beyond their standard deep throat slobber job to maintain their grip on priority access to athletes, but the fact no other news organization did even an iota of research is indicative of how our public has become so poorly informed on a multitude of issues, this included.

And it was - as far as sports news goes - the video shows Te'a was playing it for all it was worth. The press should have at least verified the existence of the GF, the funeral, etc. etc. instead of just taking the player's word for it. At least digging the obit out of the local paper in the past would have been SOP.

I really don't give a crap about whether he was in on it or just gullible. What bothers me most is that this story came out in maybe late September. Where the hell was the press on this? Other than reporting what he said, doesn't ANYONE in the news media have a responsibility to check up on a story to get the FACTS straight! Nobody bothered to give this girl family a call for an interview? Nobody bothered to Google her name to see what comes up on a simple internet search? Nobody! CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, FOX, CNN you name it. What other stories have we been spoon fed to believe that are just as much bull shit as this? That's the really scary part about this whole episode.

Woody, 'ole PR buddy, I'm in trouble and need your help.

I missed my connecting flight and I'm stuck in an airport in Spain. My luggage was already on the other plane and I just had my wallet stolen while I was in the bathroom. Everything's gone, my ID, credit cards, cash....My phone won't work since I don't have roaming service. I've got nothing but the clothes I'm wearing.

The press was a little preoccupied with the election - ironically, they were reporting on women with cancer that Romney killed. He probably killed this guy's GF too.
