I feel bad for Capers, just because he has a lot of guys on the mend and no real go-to unit to speak of.
    Neal is a fraud.

Trade Raji (suggested the same for AK)

    Draft Jesse Willams

Move Perry to ilb (cut or trade hawk)

Front 3 of Pickett, Williams, Jones

This is a description of comeback:

      Pick # 12 Oakland Raiders (From Dolphins) Hayden, D.J. CB 5'11" 191 Houston 85.1

That one surprized me a bit. I was watching him move up boards fast and did give him a solid shot of being a first Rd. pick but where he went surprized me. The Boys need on the OL but grabing Travis Frederick, Wisconsin was a shocker to me...a reach? Who can ever judge such a thing when it comes to a team need?

All in all 8 BIG MEN were taken. That didn't surprize me.

Our rivals the Minnesota Vikings did extremely well again. Their GM is on the ball. He drafted very well in 2012. They took care of three primary needs in round one. Pick #23 and DT and Sherrif Floyd...he fell like an anchor. Then right back with the #1 or #2 ranked CB Xavier Rhodes ... then ...
the 'coup de gras', and the move with the NE Pat's to secure a solid WR in Cordarrelle 'double down' Patterson... with the New England former # 29 pick.

      WOW!

Overall it was 'a BIG BOY' draft....with all in all ... 8 picked in Round one.

7 DB's off the board is something too.

Poor Ole Manti Te'o watched 7 DB's go off the board, and all he can drink tonight is beer...no champagne.

      Life's tough !

Jones is the closest TT has come to actually acquiring a 3-4 DE, even though he doesn't have enough sand in the bucket.

I actually think Jones will be okay - but there's no accounting for Dom Capers.

To answer your question - no, we don't need to be a 3-4 team, and we're really not. We run the 2-whatever more than we do a 3-4.

That's not going to change. TT could draft 53 defensive linemen, and Mr. Spraypaintedhair will only play 2 of them at a time anyway.

        • I like the Perry pick last year. If healthy, I think the guy is going to surprise this year. For a guy so raw at OLB and little minicamp/training camp to master the position, he was impressing me before his injury. My prediction is that the Packers rank in the top 5 in sacks again this year, but they will be a little more balanced. Meaning they'll have Matthews amongst the league leaders, but Perry and Jones will chip in around 7-8 sacks each.

everybody was fooled and sure it was Te'o they were taking!

Three interesting players falling out of the first round - Te'o, Geno and Lacy. Geno and Lacy stuck in the green room...

I'm sure the GMs are going to be re-evaluating them, guys they probably thought wouldn't be around anymore.

              • Wow, Geno Smith saying he's not going to show up tomorrow and Saturday.

At a time when quarterback Geno Smith has faced harsh criticism regarding his ability to handle adversity, Smith isn't handling adversity well.

Not exactly exhibiting mental toughness there. Have to think that'll cost him.

He should show up with bells on tomorrow - literally. Have some fun with it, instead he's pouting. Are you allowed to be a diva before you're even picked?

After the Colts went DE Bjoern Werner. I felt for sure that TT might take Datone Jones but was actually hoping for DT Sylvester Williams (who I pegged to the Vikings). Sharrif Floyd falling to the Vikings at #23 set that choice for TT up.

I've never seen it so hard to determine a good choice for a Round 1 Pick as that #26 this draft. The funny thing as it got closer and closer to Thurs. 25 April; the analysts doing Mocks were ignoring Datone Jones. That bothered me, but he does fit our need for a 3-4 DE the best.

Eric Reid went sooner than I would have bet. TT may be very pleased with his Safetys but I felt (feel) we need more punishement in our backfield at Safety. My Mock is mostly about toughness.

There's a contradiction and that and my 'mocked pick' at #26 and Datone Jones. Thus my nickname for him...'Hollywood'.

He's seemingly a mild young man.

                  Edit:

Ohh No. I just looked at McGinn's Mock for the first time.

He had us connected to DT Sylvester Williams. I have to agree with that as it went ....or rather.... didn't go down.

                  PACKERS!

I thought that Lacy would go tomorrow and maybe Mr. Smith as well but I had 'Mr. Slower Pants' ... going either to the BEARS or VIKINGS and in both case I was scratchin' my head. This draft and Round 1 was alot to do with Surprize and contradiction. It went fast and smooth.

It had it's element of surprize if it lacked excitement.

I was watching the TV shots of him as the draft progressed today. His body language was SO NEGATIVE that I said to myself that if I was GM there was no chance in hell that I would want that ahole on my team. I read something earlier that he would never be a leader or positive influence in the locker room, and from what I saw , sounds correct.

I sure looks like alot of draft experts saw that too.

As much as I hate Nick Perry in coverage and hate the fact that he ties Clay down a little by not being able to play coverage, I did like his bull rush last preseason. It would be fun to see Perry and Clay lineup on the same side and run some stunts off each other. I just hope they don't view Perry as an every down linebacker. He's more of a pass rush specialist.

Last year's draft entirely dedicated to defense - now our 1st round pick this year... and we're still super shitty!!!
Okay, just to make sure I'm following your narrative: last year the Packers took two defensive linemen who really don't at all fit the 3-4 defensive lineman size parameters. They lacked length, and were also miscast because they were one-gap penetrators and so didn't fit the two-gap scheme.

This year the Packers select a guy who is the classic 3-4 defensive end, rated by scouts as the third best 3-4 de in the draft, and now this guy is also the wrong size and fit for Green Bay. It's a desperation move.

It's unfortunate when anyone gets hurt. I get the feeling some people "blame" the player for that, which is ridiculous. I've even seen people say bust because a guy gets hurt. If he had injury concerns coming into the draft (Justin Harrell), then I could see banging on a GM for that risk taken. Nick Perry (likely coming back right away) and Jerel Worthy (likely on PUP when season starts) both got hurt. It's just unfortunate, nothing more.

It's fun to talk football, but it's a little presumptuous to comment here like anyone here knows better what would fit the Packers needs and schemes. As the saying goes, they've forgotten more about football than we'll ever know. Don't get too worked up. The guys in charge know what they are doing. It sucks when you're down to Brad Jones as a starting ILB, but that's where they were last year. If they have health this year, it'll be better. They got their Cullen Jenkins type 5 Tech guy. Good. They found Nick Collins in the second round before...here's hoping they can find another this year. That guy is missed. He was talent and glue.
