What a wild and awful finish to that game. Up 30-14 there is no reason your mvp QB needs to be throwing two interceptions to all but kill us. Just so ridiculously ironic this whole game was.

You people that think this team is a Super Bowl contender are delusional.
1) McCarthy really isn't that good of coach. Actually, he's out-coached virtually every weekend. The game plan for today was atrocious and he couldn't adjust. Now that Lovie Smith is gone, there probably isn't another coach in the league he will be able to outwit. The good news is that after this season the Super Bowl Championship honeymoon will end -- IMHO.
2) The offense is really over-hyped. Rodgers needs to be great every week if the Packers are going to win. Cincinnati employed the defense the Packers and Rodgers have historically struggled with. Rush the passer with the front four, drop the LB's (forget about the run), press corners and the two safeties over the top. Bend but don't break. You will give up yards with the run and by the pass over the middle but knowing that the Packers aren't patient enough "to take what the defense is giving you" they will eventually give it up (via punt, downs or to a lesser extent by turnover).
3) The OL is a fucking disaster.
4) Injuries to key personnel are an issue EVERY SEASON. It's getting old ... and I'm sure it only will get worse as the season wears on.
5) The defense is just average. They look good for two quarters and pathetic for two quarters ... the secondary is very "leaky". The return of Burnett and Hayward will help but when Matthews ends up on the IR, the Packers will be in big trouble ...
No way a "Super Bowl contender" loses a game this way. Cincinnati gift wrapped a victory and the Packers just pissed it away ...
At best this team is 10-6 but I am thinking 8-8 is more realistic. (Yes, 8-8.) The 2013 Packers will look like world beaters at times (ie Washington) but unfortunately, I believe there are a lot more "Cincinnati" type games to be played this season.Last edited by mr_blonde; 09-22-2013, 04:06 PM.

Overall you make some good points, but looking at our schedule there are not many defenses that we will face which have the talent that the Bengals have. Let's not lose sight that their front 4 is elite. We were limited working the middle of the field when Finley went down. A healthy Starks virtually eliminates the fluke fumble in the 4th quarter that was run back 50+ yards.Originally posted by mr_blonde View PostYou people that think this team is a Super Bowl contender are delusional.

The offense was playing at a huge disadvantage, and on top of that it was a tough road game. The sky is not falling. We lost a ridiculous game, crazy things happen in Cincy, so it goes..."In the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey."

Come to the Crusty Chat and I will upbraid you. No one but an internet troll could write this drivel after a Packers team rolls up nearly 200 yards rushing and forces a score of turnovers with fabulous defensive play.Originally posted by mr_blonde View PostYou people that think this team is a Super Bowl contender are delusional.

Most super bowl champs don't look like superbowl champs the September before. I'd rather have some adversity to overcome than stroll through the season unchallenged into the playoffs. Historically it doesn't end well for those teams.70% of the Earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Al Harris.

That's the right mix, 3rty, and that is the right tone to take. This is the loss I was predicting and it took four key injuries, Rodgers having more picks than TD's, and a devastating fumble to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. This team has a chance to healthy up now and they will begin what I have been calling the "Fun Run" in two weeks. The team needed a slap in the face, and the coaches can see who is and who isn't making plays. With a losing record to use as the bommyknocker they can come back and dispense playing time justice.Originally posted by 3irty1 View PostMost super bowl champs don't look like superbowl champs the September before. I do have a little worry tempering my enthusiasm. First, the offensive line issues may be too much to overcome. Sherraga was the plan--not BakhBarc, and EDS is not good. The other thing that worries me is McCarthy. If his love life is like his play calling the show must be over pretty quick. We finally have a running game working and we lose the ball twice on long picks. If the offensive line can just try to not be horrible, and if McCarthy can learn to not be McCarthy we will really enjoy the coming weeks.[QUOTE=George Cumby] ...every draft (Ted) would pick a solid, dependable, smart, athletically limited linebacker...the guy who isn't doing drugs, going to strip bars, knocking around his girlfriend or making any plays of game changing significance.

Remember before too many of you get down on EDS, most of you said almost any schmuck could be plugged in at center and suffice. Whether you all want to admit it or not, center is yet another position that TT let a quality player get away, and they've been struggling at the position since. That all said I do agree EDS sucks donkey dong.
