I agree with your concerns about his health, and I was somewhat ambivalent about his contract extension because of it. Broken bones are somewhat fluky things that just happen. The hamstrings are another issue. I suspect they will be the early end of his career at some point, because an article I read recently said the biggest factor for getting a hamstring pull is having a previous hamstring pull, and Matthews has had a bunch. He said this year that he has had them in both legs and in many different locations.
I had hoped he would play 18-20 years like his father and uncle did. I doubt that is in the cards for him. I now hope he plays enough over the next 5+ years to justify his contract extension. I doubt that he will get another in GB.
