  • Browns fan. At least Lion fans have been able to cheer for Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson.

The Browns are an answer about what is worse, close bitter losses or blowouts.

The close, bitter losses in the playoffs on their own errors look like Shangri-La compared to now.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Ya, the Browns fans usually think the season is over before it begins. Sometimes there is hope in the first game, but usually it's gone by halftime.

Not sure...but both are better than being a Bear or Maple Leaf's fan, near as I can tell.

          • Banner and Lombardi OUT in Cleveland. Ray Farmer will remain as GM. Haslam promises to continue interfering.

            Did Farmer Know?

            • Even if this is the right move for the Brownies, it was still done backwards. Farmer was not involved in selecting the HC, so unless the 'two clowns' got a gem the dysfunction will continue for another year. Even if the coach is good, he's likely to be looking over his shoulder all next season.

For those around here wanting to blow things up after yet another playoff loss, be careful what you wish for.

PFT is blowing up with this. Getting rid of Lombardi (and probably Banner) are good choices but wow what a mess they've got there. Haslam is quickly vaulting himself into the owner stratosphere that includes Al Davis and Daniel Snyder, with honourable mention to Jerry Jones and Georgia Frontiere.

Don't see how you put Jones as only an honorable mention.

In other Cleveland news, Haslam is planning to offer a mail in rebate to fans who purchase season tickets.

Mostly because Jones has managed to put an at least respectable team on the field most years, despite his best efforts.

Are you joking about the rebates? I'm honestly not sure!!!

That's the joy of having the single, "knows everything" owner.

                      Utter dysfunction.

                      • Usually a single owner of a successful business has an idea about how to run the thing.

There were year long reports of dysfunction in the front office (between Banner and Lombardi) and with Lombardi running roughshod over the coach on the roster and backup QB after the injury. There was even a mention today that if Adam Case had been smart and took a new job, he would have brought along ex-Packer and Disciple of Ted (also acquirer of some of San Fran's roster) Scot McCloughan, which would have ousted Lombardi.

So, in typical Browns fashion, they did the right thing about a month too late.

                          • And this is why I called it a rotation.

Lombardi lands on his feet in New England
It took Michael Lombardi five years to get another job with an NFL team after being let go by the Oakland Raiders following the 2007 season.

And the Browns continue to cause themselves bad PR - the whole McDaniels thing is turning into a he said/she said ordeal. Reports are coming out both that McDaniels was in the running until the end, and that he declined a 2nd interview. Best part is that it seems these reports don't seem to be conflicting

Shortly after Josh McDaniels withdrew his name from consideration for the Browns' head-coaching job, a report surfaced that said he and the Browns were still talking.

A couple of intriguing reports emerged on Thursday regarding Josh McDaniels' candidacy for the coaching job in Cleveland.

                            • Lombardi’s role with the Patriots is unclear.
should be interesting. Wonder if he'll suggest hiring Matt Millen in some capacity.

                              • Frankly I don't get the Mike Lombardi love. He has been with Belichick before, but his rep is less than stellar and he is considered difficult to work with. I wonder what skill he has that Belichick is happy to have?
