I should also note your scenario is feasible. Teams don't usually tell each over who they'll pick in these situations. I would also say that if they really really wanted Gilbert they likely wold have just taken him. I assume they had equal grades with Barr and maybe Donald so one spot isn't a big deal.

I thought Donald and Gilbert were obvious projections for Zimmer's defense. I know DT isn't a need, but Donald would be great in that defense. If Floyd pans out, it's a moot point, but they may regret passing on Donald. Barr is a great talent though. I'm not that high on Bridgewater, but they got him at a good spot.

I can buy that - Vikings need help in the defensive backfield, and I'm sure they expected the Browns to grab Manziel in that spot. I did.

Many NFL Experts felt that the Browns would select QB Johnny Manziel with their early pick and they didn't and managed to recover. That fact is interesting.

Tony Manziel is simply happy that he landed someplace in the 1st round and just want to get started and help the browns out. I do think he felt he was going to Cleveland. It's like a lot of thing were aligned to ensure that was a reality.

What about Detroit? Ebron? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Pettigrew is signed for the next few years, and they've got enough guys to catch balls there with him, Johnson, Tate and Bush. Seems like an 'anti-need'.

That pick caught me by surprize also.

The Detroit Lions have priority needs at Safety; CB and DE.

I thought they were OK with Pettigrew @ TE.

I like the Lions pick, they went for BPA instead of reaching for need. All I know is that I'm selecting Stafford in fantasy this season with all the receiving options he'll have....plus they will have to score 35 a game to win.

I was surprised they signed Pettigrew. I think he's well on the downside of a disappointing career.

It's a luxury to have two solid TE's. Remember the recent success for the NE Pat's? How they struggle minus that.

Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and now TE Eric Ebron and the Lions "O". I predict a career season and total yards or > 5,038 yards and the Lions still miss the playoff.

They need to fix their "D". Priority needs after a solid offensive 1st Rd. pick; remaina at Safety, CB and DE.

Actually, it's possible the Vikings outsmarted themselves. They might have thought there's no way the Browns would draft the guy they wanted, so let's get a 5th round pick. I think they might have though. Paul Allen, the Vikings radio guy, is usually pretty plugged in on early picks. He usually talks up the guy the Vikings want, and he oftentimes correctly predicts who the Vikings will take. I've always felt like the organization uses him to get some good publicity on the guys they like. Anyways, a co-worker was telling me that Allen was really talking up Gilbert yesterday--even though most experts had Gilbert falling on their boards. I think he might have even predicted the Vikings take Gilbert.

I think it was Chip Scoggins from the Star-Tribune who had an article yesterday saying the logical pick was Gilbert, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was fake info leaked.
Sounds like they are really happy with Barr and Bridgewater...they're talking Teddy up as the future QB even though he'll start the preseason as the #3 guy behind Cassel and Ponder.
Barr sounds like a physical freak but I thought I heard somewhere that he didn't play well against good competition. Zimmer will do good things with him but he'll have a lot of growing to do to succeed. He helps out their LB corps which was not good last year. Greenway is decent but declining and yet is probably their best LB.

yeah, but that only managed to stay together for one year

after one year we lost drive and jennings, leaving 4 of those 6

then after this year we've lost finley and jones, now just 2 of those 6 left

bush pettigrew and tate all just got recent deals, megatron has a mega deal that isn't going anywhere, and ebron is there for at least 5 years

The Lions might be better than we are now... they certainly destroyed us last time we played. 40-10 isn't even a competitive game - I don't care if Rodgers was out or not. They literally beat the living hell out of us on both sides of the ball.
