I lived in Iowa, and games were regionally televised much like they still are, but in Iowa where there is no predominant team, we always saw the dominant team of Central division at the time...the Vikings. The only time I got to see Packer games on TV back then were if they were playing the Vikings or the Bears. In the 80's and early 90's that regional coverage in Iowa predominantly switched to the Bears, given the build up to the '85 season and they were good for a few years after that. When Ron, Mike and Brett showed up, I saw a lot more Packer games on regional game of the week.
On Sundays in the early 80's, my brother and I would tune the car radio to a very static-filled WTMJ broadcast of Jim and Max, carried by an affiliate station in Platteville, WI I believe, which was about 80 miles from where we lived in Iowa. The broadcasts would go in and out frequently, but we were listening to our beloved Packers, and playing catch in the yard. I'm surprised we didn't ever drain the battery in our old station wagon.
As for the broadcast of this game, and the Packers that year, the '78 season was like an oasis in the desert for Packer fans. Then 1979 came and things were back to normal. Check out the stats from the games during the particular week this game was broadcast, and look at some of the great names:

Nice idea on the pro-football reference link. That was when Air Coryell was going full force.

I too started to watch football in the 70s. This was when I went to my first game at Lambeau with my dad - who is still around and turned 90 last fall.Originally posted by Carolina_Packer View PostGreat post, and video. I found someone else's game on YouTube as well. Our own TT vs. Joe Montana back in 1981.

Here is the game link if you want to watch. There's one play early on in the game where he totally shoots his gap and looks like he has the ball carrier dead to rights, but then gets shaken off because he tackles him too high. I wonder how TT the GM would have graded TT the linebacker?

Were you owning cars when you were 10 years old or are you Woodbuck's age?Originally posted by Freak Out View PostThe late 70s were fucking GOLDEN! Maybe not for the Packers....but I was having the time of my life. I would never have been caught dead driving a Pinto....not when I owned a 65 Galaxy 500.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I would rather have a hot poker shoved up my backside than watch ANY Steelers game from that era. *^&%$! 17 game winning streak vs. Browns, &%!@ One for the Thumb (which by the way jinxed the franchise for nearly a decade thank you Joe Greene), !@#!&%# steroids, !@#!&%# Terrible Towels, !@#!&%# Chuck Noll, !@#!&%# Art Rooney, !@#!&%# confluence, !@#!&%# arguing NFL Championships versus Super Bowls, !@#!&%# Lambert.Originally posted by Rastak View Post

During the introduction to this game, one of the announcers (who were they?) said the field at Candlestick is below sea level? Didn't know that.Last edited by Guiness; 06-07-2014, 01:58 PM.--

I was a follow on to the gamma radiation comment. In the 2003 re-imagining of the Hulk, some writer in his infinite wisdom decided add gene splicing with a sea cucumber to the Hulk's makeup. I kid you not.Originally posted by pbmax View PostI would take offense if I understood this remark.--
