we didn't have any time outs, cause we like to waste them early in halfs

    • Big big difference is the Packer D pressuring Palmer. Need to keepp it up next half.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.

      • First team in history to go to the Superbowl with only 1 RB, 2 third string WRs and 0 TEs!

          • Defense playing lights out. Offense will be challenged to score a TD. Other than Rodgers, no difference-makers on offense. We can win a FG battle.

defense playing great, cards-o choking like usual, and we got some nice breaks

but we're still lossing to a team that only had 75 yards of offense
The key is that they are wearing out the Cards D and keeping the Cards O out of sync.

We'll see if it pays off, but they are playing the underdog strategy to perfection. They should know it well. It's been used against them several other times to great effect when they ran the hot rod O.

                • Aaron Rodgers has had plenty of time. The OL is doing it's job.

He has been protected and NOT sacked in the first half.

James Starks has looked fine. Our young WR's are doing fine.

WE James Jones has been open enough to make a catch for six.

Aaron Rodgers has to get into this game PRONTO ! He's otherwise going to hand it to Carson Palmer and the Cardinals.

Agree. Cards will adjust to all the man, but packers played some zone as well. We'll see who can keep the edge on scheme after packers get the ball first.

                              • First Half Grades

                                Offense - B+

Slightly generous grade considering they only managed 2 FGs but factors in injuries, solid defensive opponent in Arizona, and was quite a bit better in comparision to the general ineptitude of the Packer O over the second half of the season. Also somehow managed to convert 6 of 10 third downs despite opening with 2 3 and outs. Need to establish an effective running game mixed in with some 10-20 yard completions to keep the chains moving.

                                Defense - A-

Held Arizona to 75 total yards on 5 first downs. David Johnson 6 for 16 for a 2.7 yard average. Fitz and Floyd combined for 2 catches for 14 yards. Even the lone TD drive took 11 plays to go 42 yards. Need to keep the pressure up and keep Johnson contained.

                                Special Teams - C

Could easily be lower, only a C for Crosby setting the kicking record. Masthay with a weak punt, no punt return yardage, and a costly penalty on AZ's first punt. Need Crosby to continue to be automatic and might need a big special teams play to win this game. Hopefully Masthay won't see the field in the second half.

                                Coaching - B-

Defensive game plan has been mostly effective. Wasting two TOs in the first half might have cost another FG opportunity at the end of the half. McCarthy's 2nd quarter play calling was effective, although would prefer to see more Starks and less Lacy on some of those plays. Red zone woes continue. McCarthy will need to go deep into the toolbox and use all of his duct tape to pull out a win.
