That part was obvious as soon as they reported a signing bonus of just $5M; after one year the remaining cap hit from it is just $3.75. With minimum salary for a 10 year vet at about $1M in 2017, His second year cap hit would have to be at least $2.25; but it was pretty well assured that he would get more "new" money the second year than just a minimum salary, so the cap hit to keep him would be higher than just $2.25M.Originally posted by pbmax View Post

Patler posted how Ted does something bordering on interesting every two years and that he is due.
I think there are a number of interesting vets who have been released early, who would cost nothing in the compensation pool calculation. He has enough money to get one. And I think there is a decent chance one will slip through past hibernating season and be willing to do a team protecting contract* and sign with Green Bay. Just seems like a lot of candidates early, even though the cap is going up, as teams prepare to open the vault for the top tier guys.
