Adam Schefter just said the 49ers owe $69 million to Chip Kelly, the previous head coaches and assistant coaches.
This fills me with great joy.
You likely have something in common with Jim Harbaugh. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The #Jaguars are interviewing #AZCardinals OC Harold Goodwin tomorrow, source said. Flying today. Bruce Arians says he’s ready to be a HC

The #Jaguars are expected to interview #Bucs DC Mike Smith for their head coaching job, source said. He's been on their list for a while

#Patriots OC Josh McDaniels will get plenty of requests. My understanding is he’ll do 3 interviews late this week: #Rams, #Jaguars, #49ers.

$69 million? Seems more than a little high, he signed a 4y $24M deal, and coached a year. That's $18M left. Do they still owe Harbaugh money? Even if they do I can't see how there can be another $50M outstanding.

Does that include money owed to Balke too?
I thought it was bad when TT added a year to Sherman and then fired him, but this is a huge waste, considering how much they will have to pay for new coaches and GM next year. I'd laugh, but since the Packers don't play them next year, it just helps Seattle.
Gutekunst as well. 49ers interviewing for HC as well. I wouldn't take that GM job unless they let me hire the coach.

Me neither.
Most of those NFL exec contracts are off set by the compensation the coach or exec gets from their new team. Harbaugh drags a pretty big ticket to the pay window from U of Mi. That would off set what he gets from those filthy pigs by the Bay. Most observers think Kelly will return to the college ranks, if not next year, then certainly by the year after. That will eat into the 18 mil owed by the Whiners.
I can't calculate what the total nut owed by SF will be, but far short of 69 mil.

I wonder if their contracts are offset by future earnings, or 'future earnings as head coach of an NFL team'?
There is Tomsula in there, fired after one season. I remember seeing something about him getting north of $10M for his single season, not sure how much of that was for future years.

The current staff has 21 other coaches & coordinators. Not all would have guaranteed contracts, but I'm guessing a select few might. That could get expensive pretty quickly.

They could all be in the first year of new two year deals. Normally, assistants work on two year deals, and some get them rolled over so its always 2 years as long as they are employed. There was an article about this last week about coaches on sabbatical (voluntary or otherwise).
The one perk to changing job locations often was that even for coaches who were fired late or did not catch on, they had a severance of a year's worth of salary to work off of.
