I will stop short of accusing the damn refs of anything intentional, but the mistakes sure were fucking onesided.
There was something awfully fishy about the favoritism penalty calling today.....

Silly Rustnut; there is a simple explanation for the packers lack of defense.

            SO TRUE

As somebody whos ref'd and umpired, the idealistic view would be call the game the same regardless

But in sports that is simply NOT the case nor would anybody really want it that way

When a team is going for a last shot in Hoops on a tie game, you let the player's decide unless it's an obvious infraction

When it's fourth down, and the ball is up for grabs, you rarely see a pass interference call at end of game..even when there are obvious ones

On fourth down at end of game, you let the players play and don't call something unless it's obvious.

Which is why anybody watching that without bias will say the Packer royally got screwed today

After it happened I got a call from my buddy in New York, who loves busting my chops back from when GB was upset by Denver in the Super Bowl as I was confident. When things go arry he's the first one to throw a dart at me with some ribbing.

Today he called, right after it occurred, and his opening line was...YOU WERE ROYALLY SCREWED

Get the Vaseline out Packer Fans and lube yourself up
            and
Merry Xmas to the Vikings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you realize how fucking insane this is? That's exactly the time you have to call it. Jesus Christ, isn't that the most critical part of the game? It's forth down, it's ok to grab the guy who has you beat, it won't be called. That's utter bullshit.

IF you grab the guy when you are beat, that's a captain obvious call. But that's what it has to be to throw the flag....an obvious call You see a TON of borderline PI's not called at game's end because the better officials let the players win the game.
How many solid push offs have you witnessed in Hail Mary plays and the flag never gets thrown. End of game ticky tack holds ? They get called during the game..perhaps randomly....but only the clear holds are called at the end

Basketball....if you watch NBA and College......you have ton's of examples. That is how sports is and has always worked.

It's why that call is nothing short of insanity.

If you read the new rule I'm not even sure it's borderline. Maybe the ref had a bad angle and thought Matthews drove him into the ground. The call lacked explanation even when the ex official, who nearly always backs his ex guys, was asked to give an explanation. Everybody who saw the call has the same WTF reaction I have

                • I get what you are saying Bretsky, but they've been making this goofy call consistently since preseason. Why would it change at the end of the game?

It should get tossed during ALL parts of the game, not just the end.

Ras, you're kinda missing the point. You're right on the money that stuff should be called consistently, and I know you also think this new 'rule' or emphasis is absurd all-around, but what Bresky and I are talking about is something different. I reffed basketball as well and I definitely let more stuff go late in very close games. No calls on ticky tack stuff. Swallow your whistle on close calls (don't call it either way). You really do want players to decide it. I'm telling you it's a real phenomenon, even if you ref as fairly as possible.

Rastak, I think you should just EMBRACE THE SCREW AND ENJOY IT

You keep blaming the rule; the rule was not broken. If this was turned around the other way, most in here would be laughing about it and enjoying stealing the call.

Think of things with this simple comparison

Think of your most hated person in your 20's who had an incredibly hot girlfriend. You have your way with her and enjoy it. But instead of laughing/enjoying/flaunting your conquest, instead you deny it even occurred.

                      I say....EMBRACE THE SCREW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                      • Bills cornerback Vontae Davis retired from the NFL during halftime of the Bills loss to the Chargers.

Never heard of that happening before.

Has to have happened to the Jets I'd bet.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

                            • Just finished watching the game. In the back of my mind, I usually run a tally of bad calls by the refs that change a drive. My tally today was 4-1 against GB. Three PIs (not called on Graham's attempt, called against Adams, not called on Adams' TD) and the roughing the passer call (which wasn't consistent with the one against the Vikings as Matthews wasn't two steps away when the ball was released)--I read after it was because he picked up the QB. Lame call anyway as there was no "driving into the ground" in my opinion. The bad call in favor of the Packers was Allison's catch and run when he was touched with a knee on the ground.

Usually, the game ends up working out in favor of the team who loses the "bad call" tally, but not today. At least it was a tie because a loss would have been ridiculous with so many questionable, impactful calls that ended or continued drives.
No longer the member of any fan clubs. I'm tired of jinxing players out of the league and into obscurity.
