Weird it doesn't seem to have worked.

I think he did quite well. He got the same money as on his original deal and got it all guaranteed plus a little bonus. Given that no teams are handing out 4 year deals with large bonuses at the beginning of camp, he did pretty well for sitting out 2 days.

I think repudiates the idea that he was considered overpaid or done around the league. Though the caveat here is that it was the Lions who are already missing Flowers.

How creative is Brian Daboll? He’s lined Frank Gore up on the outside as a receiver a few times in the first two practices. Allen just fires a screen to him on the last play. Getting ball to playmakers in space is the goal. Interesting. #Bills

This hasn't been creative in two decades.

As @2ITB_Buffalo pointed out, the Marchibroda era used to do this. That era was so long ago that Marchibroda himself is dead of old age.

          • Whoa. That’s so cool. You can line up a running back as a WR? What will the defense do? He’s too powerful for a corner and too shifty for a linebacker. #gamechanger

Agree -- I didn't see the numbers on the deal. He basically got what he would've playing in GB.
I would think a longer deal would be easier for a team to do (I was thinking 2/12M, 6 guar) if they have cap space because they could spread it over more time, but I get what you're saying.

It's a good deal for both Lions and Daniels, assuming he stays healthy. How many 30 yo 6'1" DLs bounce back from injuries? Might his body be breaking down?

                • Bengals A.J. Green out 6-8 weeks with torn ligaments in ankle.

                  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...kely-6-8-weeks

An MRI revealed that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green has torn ligaments in his left ankle that is likely to sideline him six to eight weeks, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Green is not expected to be ready for the regular-season opener at Seattle.

He was carted off the field Saturday during the Bengals' first training camp practice of the season at the University of Dayton.

The Bengals were practicing at the University of Dayton's Welcome Stadium as part of the NFL's 100th-anniversary celebration. The conditions of the field were considered subpar.

The #Dolphins have fired offensive line coach Pat Flaherty of his duties and promoted analyst Dave DeGuglielmo to offensive line coach. Flaherty struggled to implement the new system, and it’s been an issue since the spring. It’s why DeGuglielmo was brought in.

                    • The Washington Redskins have been a meandering franchise for more than 20 years. Around the league, they've developed an ugly reputation.

I actually feel like I should have known this and predicted it. Bruce Allen is a VP of the Redksins NOT because he knows how to run a football team but because Dan Snyder knows he needs a new stadium. And 'ol Bruce is politically connected.

And that leads to interference in big decisions because they start to worry about how it will poll with politicians, fans and voters who might have a say over how much money to fork over to Snyder.

And I did not know this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...&noredirect=on

McCloughan lost his arbitration case over his firing. The exact charge was reporting to work intoxicated. Given that ScottyM is one of those confessed alcoholics who claims its under control because he only drinks beer in the evening, this doesn't seem implausible. And of course, his first NFL gig was with John Dorsey, a man with few principles, who hired him as a consultant in 2018.

Good for him. Worked out great not playing Bulaga all preseason and then lining him up against Mack. I expect similar start to the season for Julio. I hope the Falcons run a lot of no contact walk through drills ala MM and Julio finds out that injuries occur when you try to go 100% all at once. Actually I wish Julio the best. I have met him and he ain't a bad guy. but he should realize that "practice makes perfect" is a saying for a reason.

                            • Ty Montgomery on leaving the Packers: https://nypost.com/2019/08/02/ty-mon...ace-with-jets/

Not often you get to see the Jets mentioned positively and the Packers negatively (this is the columnist) but here it is.

I always like Monty and think he got the short end of the stick. Dumb decision, sure. Possibly a bit prima donna-is, OK (trying to make up for earlier mistake). But self centered team cancer, not buying it. The storyline that he cost the Packers a comeback win is just too neat. Packers were losing that game for good reason given their play in the second half.

Bulaga was literally just coming back and coming back relatively early from a blown ACL the year before. He was going to be less than 100 no matter what. It’s odd that you attribute it only to not playing in preseason when there is so much more context to that situation.
