Most of those "opportunities" were better left alone. I don't have much higher an opinion of Ted Thompson than you do, but passing on mostly retread free agents wasn't his worst quality.Originally posted by Anti-Polar Bear View PostAs a young lad wearing flowers in long Jesus hair, I was at an anti-war rally once when a long lost high school crush came out of the blue to say hello to me. Dolefully, porn addiction had already clouded my mind with dullness. I regretfully ran away from her without saying a fucking thing. As the great rock band, Coldplay, likes to say, fuck missed opportunities!
Todd's regime was the epitome of missed opportunities. And incompetence. And underneath the fake smiles and wry jokes, cowardice.
Despite the abundance of cap bucks and frogskins, Todd couldn't and didn't acquire the likes Randy Moss, Marshawn Lynch, Tony Gonzalez and Brian Urlacher. All the planets aligned for Todd, and the Great Arm of Butte was his to draft. All Todd had to do afterward was utilize Belichickism. Trades. Free agency. The draft. Instead, Todd opted to drown the Packers in an impotent sea of incompetence with that draft and develop bullshit. If not for Desean Jackson, Todd would've been decapitated without a ring.
Talk about missed opportunities. And incompetence. And after the fluke Super Bowl victory, Todd could've inspired millions of downtrodden queens to come out - talk about cowardice. What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Of those "opportunities", Marshawn Lynch was probably the one that -- even in hindsight -- would've paid off IMO. He had his best years in SEA; the rest were on the downside of their careers and would've cost a lot.
FWIW, I thought TT had some real head scratcher moves, but overall he kept the franchise going and corrected for some of Sherman's mistakes. Ron Wolf had some clunker picks too.
Overall he was an above average GM and a lot of that was thanks to his early drafts and moves. he definitely faded down the stretch and some of the criticism was warranted.
As for "only one" SB, they went to the NFC Championship several times, and were perennial contenders. It's really hard to win a SB, even with a Top 5 QB you need a lot of luck and surrounding talent. Look at Drew Brees for example. Point is, you can't just assume having a great QB is going to guarantee multiple SB wins, and to expect that is hubris.

Patriot fans can’t really complain much. They’ve been the greatest dynasty in NFL history. Other than the Patriots though, 31 other teams can pick through free agent signings that worked out for other teams and draft picks that worked out, and say, our team dropped the ball.
Packers won the second most games from 2007-2017

Also the Lynch deal, as good as it might have been, supposedly would have cost Hawk. Right after the deal fell through, there were some LB injuries forcing Hawk to start. He went on to have the best year of his career. Maybe the Packers would have won a couple of rings with Lynch, or maybe they would have missed out on the one they did win.Originally posted by run pMc View PostOf those "opportunities", Marshawn Lynch was probably the one that -- even in hindsight -- would've paid off IMO. Anyone watch this?
TT didn’t look good
I’m guessing he’s got Parkinson’s, the way he was moving and talking reminded me of Muhammad Ali, just without the tremors
It would also explain why the team allowed him to keep his job for so long, Parkinson’s effects the body, not the brain. So his mind would have still been there at the end of the run
