4. Burks is the pile of crap you said he was from day one. I'm not sure who can cover an ILB on our team.
Agreed, if they need coverage, its a safety. They just don't play a traditional guy at the 2nd ILB spot except Goodson on run downs or against heavy personnel.
Otherwise its a pass rusher or safety.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.
I think the mix is close to where they were when they had both Peppers and Perry with Matthews roaming.
You see 3 lineman versus run heavy. 2-4 when it’s a favorable down for offense but the offense has an extra receiver. And 1-5 when it’s a pass down.
Fackrell, Dr Zaius and PSmith allow them to play games with who is ILB.
One thing I am not sure of is the second down lineman to match up with Clark in 2-4. It was Lowry, who started off like a house on fire but fell off with some shaky run defense.
Lancaster got the call and he fell off too. Now it seems back to Lowry, Not sure if they are this up and down or if there is another pattern.

Right. Goodson is crap - I doubt Burks would be worse. It seems like Fackrell has done well there at times, and no second ILB, just using a Safety in the box has generally worked well. I thought before the season Burks should be tried at OLB with his speed. I hope they still do that before giving up on him.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Burks is way too small to play OLB in Pettine's defense. Look at the guys brought in this year. Z Smith, P Smith and Gary are all 270+. I think Wist was probably right. Burks just can't play.

Full time, I completely agree, but when they go all in for pass rush, putting one of the Smiths inside, etc., I'm pretty sure he could be an effective speed rusher on the edge. And I wouldn't be too quick to give up on him at ILB also. There are a lot of players his size and speed doing good things on a lot of teams. He lacks polish, but maybe that can be coached up.

When one of the Smiths goes inside, we replace size with size on the outside (Gary or Fackrell). Burks is not going to play OLB in this scheme. I don't have much hope for Burks, but I have seen glimpses of coverage ability. He's just not a very good tackler.
"There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson
WISTY; it's been a LONG TIME. Now that you are with us for a few days it's time for you to Acknowledge a few things. I'll start with the bads first. So tell me if it's true
1. Watching Rashan Gary play has turned Wist into a Kyle Fackrell fan. While Gary has flashed talent a handful of times in his 15 game season, as many joked about he makes others better, he just may have made Kyle Fackrell a better player..........well....for now....at least clearly better than Gary
No, I don't agree with that... Gary certainly hasn't set the world on fire, but I see development. Fackrell's ceiling is well below Gary's.
Aaron Jones is our best player on offense. I listen to a lot of radio on the Packer beat guys......several opposing teams...including San Fran...note they go into each week trying to find ways to minimize Aaraon Jones. Nobody talks about stopping AROD anymore. He's dropped off some, but he's still pretty good.
Agree with that. Jones is our most consistent and biggest threat. The addition of Jenkins and Turner has been huge - we have a legitimate running game now.
At worst, we have 1-2 capable WR's on the roster. At best we have 3. Guter HAS to get two more receiving weapons on offense for next year.....very likely one top WR and a TE
WR has been a disappointment. Was expecting more out of MVS. I'm not down on Graham like most. He's been open a lot... the problem has been Rodgers.
Burks is the pile of crap you said he was from day one. I'm not sure who can cover an ILB on our team.
ILB and WR have to be the focus of the offseason. At least they figured Burks can't be put on the field. Goodson is limited, but has good instincts, and if his wheels will get him there, he'll make the tackle.
It's time for you to acknowledge that Black Martinez is a serviceable ILB. Dude make a lot and lot of tackles. GB needs to resign the guy. If you can put a talented ILB next to him who can cover somebody it will only make Martinez better.
My opinion of Martinez hasn't changed. He makes a lot of tackles - downfield. I still want to replace him.
The glass ain't half full, it's 3/4 full and rising.
We started slow. Arod pressured the defense, had some bad breaks, and kept taking what they give him, and broke those purple bastards down.
He sees the field fine, He just doesn't see many guys breaking open. So he stays patient and goes to the guys he trusts. That works out to being Adams 90% of the time . Ain't shit wrong with that. He's not the QB he used to be, but he's still top 3 in the NFL. That's good.
BTW, we were in a 2-4 nickle and some 2-3 dime 50% of the game.
Was that a dumb scheme?
It ain't the X's and the O's, it's the Jim's and the Joe's.
I breezed thru the game once - only saw 1 2-4 alignment. All of the others were 2-3's with either Sullivan or Cambell lined up inside.
There was also a lot more 3-3 than any other alignment. Pettine just moved guys around so much that it was difficult to see who was doing what; and, that's the point.
Depending on how you counted ZSmith as he was standing up or had his hand on the ground, they were in a 4-2 a lot. In base, they were in a standard 3-4 with Goodson in there.
Agree on the "Jim's and Joe's"... we got the guys I wanted in the offseason, and Pettine's alignments threaten gaps and show deception unlike Capers. Capers just lined up static down after down - it was easy to block.
Turner is not impressing me. He is just past stop gap on my reading.
I don't think he is a guard. His best block is the double team then going after the 2nd level. There are so many blown blocks on the right side. Its happened for years, so it can't just be Turner, but he isn't the solution either.

The Packers converted $14.26M of Aaron Rodgers’ 2020 $19.5M roster bonus into a signing bonus, which allows that money to prorate over five seasons, including 2019.
The Lions did the same with Matthew Stafford’s 2020 $6M roster bonus.
GB creates 11.4M in 2020 cap, DET $4.8M.
Tom Silverstein @TomSilverstein
The #Packers were $8.9M under the cap and this will put them at just about $12M under in 2019. The deadline for applying money to the 2019 cap on an extension is Saturday at 3 p.m. This could be for a pending deal or it could be to cover some other costs they are anticipating.

Jim Owczarski @JimOwczarski
Jersey swap Friday again for #Packers LBs & DL, and they’re all accounted for going into the final week of the regular season.
But, working off to the side today:
• Jamaal Williams (shoulder)
• Will Redmond (hamstring)
• Danny Vitale (knee)
• Jake Kumerow is not present.

Former Seahawks’ LB Brian Bosworth will raise the 12 Flag prior to Seattle’s game vs. the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.
So much for the #1 seed. Bo Jackson should truck him while he is doing it.
