  • There were definitely a few people in there parts who thought Jones was gonna be special when they drafted him. I thought he'd be more James White than a feature back personally.

I don't remember what I thought of Jones when he was drafted. But I remember he immediately had people talking positively about him. Even before training camp. Whatever it is, he had it.

Gutey now has a tough decision on whether to give Jones a big contract extension. I kmow some teams have fared badly when giving a RB a big second contract. But man, that was impressive yesterday. Lions had a plan to slow down the Packers by taking away Davante Adams, and Jones jist destroyed that plan.

      • Jones has evolved into a touchdown machine. In his last 20 games (season and playoff) he has:

22 TDs from 303 rushing attempts
        5 TDs from 63 receptions.

        27 TDs on 366 touches in 20 games. 1.35 TDs/game. A TD every 13.55 touches.

It is difficult not to want to hang on to that type of performance for as long as it continues. JSO had a good analysis of the Cook and Kamara contracts. If either are released after 3 or 4 years, the full costs to the teams are about $10M/year. A little more on a per year basis if released after only 2 years. A guy who, on average, has 18 touches/game and scores at a rate of greater than a touchdown per game is worth that.

For the record I liked Williams a lot better the first two years when he and Jones were trading starts, and am happy he's become a solid second option.
I knew Packers needed young blood. (Ryan Grant was also let go.) I just thought other youngsters from previous year were just as good. DuJuan Harris, some other guys passing through. I wasn't impressed with Jones, he seemed small, nothing special. So I was wrong. Leave me alone.

I don’t think if you keep Rodgers the plan should be to give him an extension. Now if the plan is to move on from Rodgers after 2021 season then mine as well sign him because JL will need all the help he can get and they have the “Rookie QB Deal”.

That’s why I have posted this extension pretty much tells the tale of how long Rodgers will be in Green Bay.

Surprised MVS isn't after the way Rodgers hung him out to dry.
