  • I'll take a sack over a pressure, but pressures/hits matter. They get a QB off his usual throwing spot, can impact the throw and possibly force a turnover or 4th down.
Keeping a QB uncomfortable is important part of the pass rush...can get them seeing ghosts. GB had something like 11 pressures and 4 sacks, and I saw Kenny Clark absolutely crush Garropolo once (legal hit). That stuff adds up over 4 quarters.

Justin Fields got sacked, pressured, and hit so much yesterday he's was probably running for his life in his dreams.

    • The fact is the GB defense still sucks.
Cute ending and all but SF sucks and so does Pack.

The pass rush was exceptional. The Packers had four sacks and, according to the official stats, 11 quarterback hits. They had a total of nine hits the first two games. Preston Smith had three hits, and Rashan Gary and Jonathan Garvin had two apiece. According to Pro Football Focus, Kenny Clark had six pressures and Gary and Smith had four each. Clark, by the way, is tied for third among interior defenders with 12 pressures.
Gary also shared a sack with Oren Burks.

        • I'm assuming some of those 15 or whatever "pressures" our guys got were multiple on the same play and/or credited on the few sack plays to guys who didn't get the actual sack but got close.

But hey, they all were a helluva lot better than in the Saints game or even the Lions game. And yeah, pressures are good, although I'm surprised they didn't give Clark credit for a sack on the fumble play. It's a sack if you knock the ball out of the QB's hand, but I guess they said Clark didn't quite touch it before the QB dropped it.

Burks used properly has a place. And that place is blitzing inside. He does that a lot better than Barnes. Unfortunately, he doesn't do much else very well - pass coverage, sideline to sideline run stopping, etc. Hopefully he'll learn and get better, because IMO Barnes is barely ok, and it wouldn't take much to be better than him.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

          • very entertaining roller-coaster ride last night. defense was much better. their worst opponent was the officiating. ridiculous how they kept SF on the field. offense was terrific in the first half but left points on the field on that 4th and goal play. special teams were good other than that return that spoiled the first half performance. new punter is terrific. mason was money as usual. they ran the ball very well but got away from it, as usual, as the game went along. Rodgers had 3+ quarters of very good play but that stretch in the 4th, when they needed a couple of sustained drives with points and got neither, was so ugly. the 2020 O was so encouraging. this O is looking like the 2019 offense. a mix of Rodgers and MLF's O's. lots of spread and empty again. at least the ball came out quickly. the Det game was nothing special but last nights was better in every way. if they keep targeting 17 at the rate they did last night (18 targets i think it was) they're going to become predictable and they'll lose one of the things that worked so well last season. Rodgers and Money-Mason come through again in the dying seconds reminiscent of the Dal game of a few years ago. this W cancels that unexpected L they got with NO. 2-1 as expected at this point.
