I hope that Matt LeFleur will finally get off the "run-Jacobs-to-death" train and hand the keys to Love and his trimmed-down group of receivers (now we can agree that Golden, Watson, and Reed are the big three, instead of four or five plug-in possibilities). Love is a veteran now. Time to see if he can take this team somewhere further down the road than a seventh seed and a one-and-done.

A bunch of those guys (Smith, Ward, Herbert, Lawrence, Goff, Maye, Mayfield) were among the most sacked QB's in the NFL. Love and Flacco was among the least. Does the DVOA distinguish between a guy who takes a sack, usually for a big loss, and a guy who throws the ball away for an incompletion?

First response from Aaron Schatz is that he had a very poor completion percentage under pressure.

Also a low aDOT, which I just looked up and is average depth of target. So he's getting fewer completions on shorter passes.

DVOA is looking for the result of the play compared to the average result for the League. So it should but I don't have a subscription to access the full set of explanations.

Full health, sure. But he's played a full slate of games 3 times out of six seasons. Missed 6, 7 and 9 games in his career rookie year, fourth year and last year.

Love has also missed a bevy of games. One of the reasons I said I'd dish him and roll with Willis. However, Burrow probably has PTSD from playing behind that bengals line with 9 run calls a game. Our O-Line is shit, but it ain't Cincinnati shit.

Given Burrow's injuries an easy argument could be made for Love; but if they are both healthy for a season you undoubtedly take Joe.

Love is made to look better by an elite play caller who prioritizes running the ball to keep a D honest. Burrow managed to take a poor coach to the superbowl.

Burrow is 43-32 as a starter including playoffs. They are 7-16 without him and didn't play playoff games in that sample.

Love is 23-18 and the team is respectively 3-3 without him. and if I recall there was one game where they looked like they were losing until Willis played a quarter and rallied them.

This isn't a knock on Love post, I like him. Its just that if you watch Bengals games its obvious Burrow has better arm talent, better mobility and reads defenses better. I'm not sure Love does anything better than Burrow.

Its not my job to do Bretsky's job for him. But seriously, he has the team he has and has gone 500. Love is a step above that with the team he has which also includes less than stellar pass pro.

Early I might have taken Burrow over Love; though currently he's banged up enough that I am not certain. I would have been after his Super Bowl appearance.
