I'd look at it from a how much per year, but also agree with this perspective.

TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

Who do you think can earn more after retiring?

I don't understand the thinking that Eli Manning is a HOF QB. He was good but not great. That he won 2 SBs is nice, but I don't think anyone has illusions about the role the NYG defense played. Their front 4 was a wrecking crew.
They played the same team (NE) twice which makes me think it's a matchup thing (like how SF is a bad matchup for GB).

Just winning a SB or two when you are a supporting cast member should not get you into the HOF, or there would be dozens of other candidates.

it's the same as Matthew Stafford being a HOF QB. He won a SB, but his DET stats were padded by being on terrible teams and needing to chuck the ball all over the yard. Sean McVay, Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp won him that SB ring.

The two SB rings are nice, but Manning doesn't have the numbers or highlights of Rodgers. I'd take Rodgers football playing career. He'll be a shoo-in for HOF unless he continues to jerk his way into annoying the voting sportswriters into not voting him first year (unlikely).

I like him, but I also don't want to judge him too harshly for doing what he thought was best for his career. It proved to be the right decision, afterall.
Actually, there’s a rule; E-Mann’s rights belonged to the team that drafted him. Sure, he could’ve quit football. He did not. He simply didn’t want to be a Chargering.

Had P-Mann played for, say, the Queens at that time, E-Mann woulda embraced playing in San Diego. A-Mann did not want his two sons competing in the same conference. Entitlement at its finest.

                He didn't break that rule.

Are you saying, Bart Starr should not be in the HOF?

I am fine with yielding to Patler on anything prehistoric relating to the Packers, but it sure seemed like Starr was the prototype “game manager.” Those Packers teams had a tons of Hall of Famers, I believe.

If Rodgers didn't have a ring, I think you can easily make the case for Manning. The goal of every player and every team should be to reach the pinnacle of competition and win a championship.

Because Rodgers did it, too, I think 100% of quarterbacks would take the personal greatness of Rodgers as opposed to the extra ring with the middling level of Manning.

Bart Starr was a 2x SB MVP, the 1966 NFL MVP, a 4 time All-Pro, and league leader in passing completion rate and passer rating four times. Eli Manning was nowhere near that good.

Eli was not the first player to make a stink about potentially playing for a specific team. John Elway is a noteworthy example.
In fact, it was not unusual for players back in the day to say no thanks to being drafted by the NFL and play for AFL or CFL. Even after the AFL/NFL merger Bruce Clark said no thanks to GB drafting him in 1980.

This year there was some smoke about Caleb being ambivalent about playing for CHI, but his PR crew squashed that.
Players usually are coached by their agents to not make big stinks about where they are drafted.

Archie did pull a lot of strings with Eli and the Chargers though. IIRC SD didn't come out of the deal too badly - they got Philip Rivers, Nate Kaeding, Shawne Merriman, and Roman Oben out of the trade.

Kurt made the owl with 2 different franchises. That is a huge accomplishment not to be mistaken with luck or surrounding cast.
